I prefer the XBox only because I prefer their choice of games.
You can get a pre-owned XBox Arcade in Gamestation for about £120.0 -
also, the ps3 may look more expensive, but it may work out cheaper in the long run as you don't have to buy extra accessories for the ps3 like the 360. you may not need any accessories for the 360 but its worth pointing out
for example, if you want to play online on the 360 its around £40 for the subscription to xbox live whereas the Playstation network is free.
if you want the xbox to be wireless enabled, then you have to buy an extra adapter for it (around £60) unlike the ps3 which as wifi inbuilt0 -
For a young child who already has a Wii, if the console is only going to be used to play games and nothing else, I would go for the Xbox Arcade. It's £100 cheaper than the PS3, and the only accessory you'd need to buy would be a £30 memory card so he can save his games.
He's probably not really into watching Blu-Ray movies, HD gaming, or playing online, so anything else is likely to be a waste of money.0 -

I don't think a 7 year old should be on the XBox live network. If you aren't old enough to set up the subscription yourself, you're not old enough. It's so easy to spend money once logged in. Scary.0 -
Both consoles have wrestling games, super hero games eg spiderman, there are sonic games on the ps3 and the xbox. As its for your son would he be able to hold the xbox controller as its a bit big but as you say he's played on the xbox so he must be ok with the controller0

well its not easy to spend money on the live network if you dont associate a credit/debit card with the gamertag, you can also set a passcode so only the people who knows the password can use the console0 -

I guess a lot of parents of older kids get pressured into associating their card onto the tag so the kids can get easy access to DLCs and the like. I know a few parents who have been stung like that when the kid doesn't pay attention to how much they're frittering away.0 -
does he watch alot of dvds at the moment? if yes then maybe the ps3 would be best with it having blu ray.0

I imagine Blu-Ray would be rather wasted on a 7 year old.0
