    'Evening All,

Chalky - Pudsey's lovely - looks nice & squidgy. how tall is he? I haven't looked at the pattern yet - too many bits & pieces to do.

I've just started a chunky baby jacket - I'd forgotten how fast chunky grows - a bit different to 4 ply & slim DK. I hope it works out OK, if so I plan to do 3 + hats for the Nursing Home Fete. Here's the patt. scroll down a bit -
    http://home.pacbell.net/kapleo/blog/domesticspherepatterns.html
to the bulky baby asymmetrical cardigan. I picked up some nice King Cole Chunky @ £1.99 per 100g so its not expensive!

    Kathy, hope you've had a good reception!

ISOM - the brownies sound scrumptious but not at all good for my cholesterol :rotfl:, especially when I've been eating dripping toast!:j

Linedancerann - glad things are improving for you.

Orkneystar, glad you're feeling better, think you've passed it to me, so sore throat , fever & bit of runny nose today. Pamspal's brought me some treats (fags & whisky), I swapped her for some fluffy wool so she can knit scarves for the fete, handovers take place in the porch - dog thinks we've gone potty:rotfl:

Maytaurfus - it took me a good 2 minutes to decifer the code at the bottom of you post, I'm blaming my grottiness:T

got to go now - grottiness is winning!

    luv
    Pam

Oh, Maytaurus - I want to make EVERYTHING on there! And all those on that toys link, too! That wool event in Berkshire must have been wonderful; I would have gone if I'd still been living in Southampton because it's only an hour or so away.

Chalky - your Pudsey is gorgeous; your DD will love it, I'm sure! I started one but I only have pale yellow wool and it just doesn't look right, so I'll save the pattern for next year and will make sure I get the right colour yarn when I'm next in the UK. I don't trust the post there at the moment if I order it online. I didn't wear a hat, by the way, just an umbrella! It was pouring with rain! Hope your ear is not affecting you too much! Love the new kitchen, by the way. I showed DH (he used to fit kitchens) and he loved it too, casting a professional eye over it - we both really like the dark wood; very Spanish!

ISM - thanks for the recipe; I'm going to be making some this morning. I'm just in the mood for some brownies today!

Salome - any news yet? As someone who was a nanny-in-waiting (for a third grandchild) until August, I know how it feels to be waiting for news from a distance! Hope everything went well for your DD and family.

Pam - hope you're feeling better today. I love the idea of handing over wool in the porch with the dog looking on!

Orkney - hope you continue to improve today.

Well, yesterday's 'welcome to new arrivals' was a brilliant afternoon. It poured and poured with rain (typical - it hasn't rained all week!) but that didn't dampen the fun we all had. There must have been about a dozen of us newbies, some French, some English, all of them lovely friendly people. We started off in the grand mayoral offices, with coffee and cakes (all yummy), and everyone was mingling really well. We had already met two of the organisers at a book fair, so that helped. After the coffee we were given a guided tour of the medieval part of the town (they call it a city but it only has 11,000 inhabitants!). We've already explored some of it but there was a lot more to see. We went inside the beautiful church and strolled down the little cobbled streets full of five-hundred year old houses that are still being lived in. It's like something from a Dickens novel and really - well, enchanting is the only word I can think of. We went to the museum where they had two displays (like architects' model layouts) of the town in times past, and all the little buildings lit up as they were mentioned by the guide. That was truly magical and I can't wait to take the grandchildren to see it. The tour was scheduled to take two hours and I didn't think it would last that long, but it went so quickly and we learned such a lot. It's an area we already feel proud of, even though we've only been here a short while.

After the tour, we went back to the mairie's office for more coffee and cakes, and some vino collapsio, which was superb, and then, fame at last, DH and I were singled out by the local news reporter who was doing an article about why the newbies had chosen this particular town. She even took a photo and I'm dreading what I look like, seeing as how the umbrella didn't keep all the rain off! We will be 'featuring' in an edition of Nouvelle Republique at some point in the near future! The committee also took photos which will be in next year's local magazine. Oh, it felt good to meet our paparazzi!

Anyway, when it came time to leave, we were all presented with some roses, a bag (like a duffle bag, with the name of the town written all over it - I'm going to use it to carry my knitting and crochet around with me; it's ideal for that!) of apples and a cake, all locally produced. The cake looks like shortbread but is absolutely rock hard - DH called it 'Dentist cake'! Not sure if our teeth will be up to eating it, although it should be lovely with some good old British custard to soften it. All in all, it was a fantastic afternoon, with wonderful people. We learned a lot and also found out that the committee was set up in 2000 specifically to help newbies to settle in to the area. There are loads of people on hand if we need any help, and they run English/French evenings every week, which were set up to help the French learn English and vice-versa, so we shall definitely be going along to those; they're not so much lessons as just conversational. They also have craft evenings (not sure what crafts they are but will find out), plant exchange events, and all sorts of other great things. I think it's wonderful that they take so much trouble to make newbies feel at home, and we were full of praise for everything. I'm going to send a thank you card because we were made to feel so welcome - it was all completely free of charge. I shall put some photos on my blog later on this morning.

I didn't manage to do any woolly stuff last night. We came back and had dinner (I had already decided we would have leftover chicken casserole which just needed re-heating), then I settled down to watch Strictly (can't knit or crochet while that's on because I don't want to miss any of the dances), and then I helped DH put some plasterboard on a ceiling; as you do, late in the evening! Then a friend I hadn't heard from for ages and ages emailed me (she's finally on the internet!), so I replied with probably the longest email I've ever sent to anyone, then watched Electric Proms (Shirley Bassey was on, and she was absolutely brilliant - still has a fantastic voice and she's 72 years old!), and discovered that tonight is the last night and Smokey Robinson will be on doing a tribute to fifty years of Motown - sheer bliss for me. It means we won't go to bed until very late but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Anyway - heavens above, doesn't she ever stop typing, I hear you all say - I'm off for a cuppa, so I'll catch up with you later. Hope you all remembered to put the clocks back!

No news about the new baby yet mioliere :-( Love the links Maytarus.
Off to church shortly. My turn doing junior church today. Always turns out to be very interesting lol.
Baby jacket nearly done now. Hope to sew it up today.
Found out a girl at our church is going to have a little boy, well two are having little boys. There's a third expecting as well, she doesn't know what the little one is yet. So lot's of baby knitting for me :-)
As my daughter lives in Birmingham Alabama, she doesn't need the knitted stuff so much lol, though it is cold there at the moment, so if she has a boy, I'll see if she would like the jacket I'm just finishing off, as it's a boy colour :-)

Good morning lovely people, sun is shining and I really feel I should be able to achieve almost anything today - well I can try.
ISOM - doing the brownies this morning, glad I waited on the flour question.
MAYTAURUS - I know I shouldn't say it but yet again you have found a whole lot of patterns that will take me all day to go through and I won't get anything else done - its not your fault I like looking at them all, saving the files, printing them off for some future date etc, I will just have to be TOUGH and whip through them all quickly.
PRFUNGI - I did picture the scene - was the "exchange" similar to a spy thriller - microfilm passed in the dark - where no one could see what was happening? I have visions of the dog just wondering what the heck was happening - was it some sort of treat for pup that didn't happen, were you accepting a bribe, payolla, contraband - the mind boggles.OH and my breakfast treat this morning was fried egg on fried bread (just the one slice), I know where you are coming from with the dripping sandwich, not that I like them, but just once in a blue moon you just have to have exactly what you want.
CHALKY - love the bear - I did download that pattern so perhaps I can put it intot he TO DO/TODAY pile and see when I get around to it.
MOILIERE -glad you enjoyed yourself even if it was raining!
OK off to have a second coffee - its Sunday I am allowed, then I shall make a start on the list of "stuff".
Oh I posted a quick photo onto wooligans off the trial Golf Bat Covers - not sure whether I got it right or not, perhaps with a pom pom they may improve then I can get stuck into the other eight!
You all have a great day what ever you are up to

    Hi everyone

I'm still here Chalky, just been really busy as I'm moving all my stock to a new unit and moving around 10000 books is no joke lol! Nowhere near finished but getting there slowly and at least my house will stop looking like a bookshop which will be nice! Thank you for saying hi.

I've only managed 2 and a half sailors hats this week and my wool stash is staring to need its own room lol.

I love the patterns that everyone has posted; only yesterday I was looking for sheep, cow and pig patterns and couldn't find anything I liked so that's spooky, were you in my house tripping over books and wool lol?

Will try and get on here again later.

    Hugs to all

    gilly
