Good morning everyone and thanks for the good wishes for DH. He's all bandaged up so his finger looks three times the size now! It's the first finger on his right hand - fortunately, he's left handed, so he's not completely helpless, but obviously won't be able to do much renovating for a few days. The hospital here was brilliant. It's like a cottage hospital, just five minutes drive from our house. We attended the emergency department on the advice of the local pharmacy, and didn't have to wait at all. By the time we'd handed in DH's details, the doctor was ready and waiting for us. The first doctor wasn't sure what to do, so called his boss who did what was necessary (won't describe it as Chalky says she doesn't like gory details - just suffice to say he now has two stitches and a a sling!) I found it interesting, a) because it wasn't my finger! and b) because I used to be a dental nurse, which drove all squeamishness out of me! As DH told them I was a dental nurse, they said I could change the dressings that they would have had to send a nurse out to do, so we have to collect the dressings and antibiotics from the pharmacy today. Then the doctor wants to see him again on Tuesday. They advised him to take painkillers but so far he has managed without. The only thing we had to do this morning was loosen the bandage.

Anyway, ended up dozing on the sofa until the wee small hours, so no woolly stuff done last night at all. I still have a load of links to look through that were posted on here yesterday, so I hope to come back on here with a bit more time later on today.

ChocClare - yes, the boobs had that effect on the males in my family, too!

Shaz - glad you're feeling better.

Chalky - I'm glad I've made myself drive since we've been here, especially as we went to the hospital last night in DH's van, which I've never driven before (no rear-view mirror - didn't like that bit!), and I had to drive it back - in the dark! Still, arrived back safe and sound.

    Anyway, I'll catch up later.

    Morning all.
Wooo hoo I finished my crochet slippers last night for DS.....can officially now say I can crochet! Only done one vent hat this week (knitted) so hope to sit and crochet a couple more wee stretchy ones today :). Then I might think about sending off (have been wondering what to do re postage as the cheaper services are not available up here so its really Royal Mail, and what with the strikes and all that).
Kathy, hope DH finger not too sore and well done on you driving with no rv mirror!
I have one huge swollen tonsil....taking some pain killers but still sore!
Hope the rest of you are oki doki.

Hi everyone - just got back from the pharmacy to collect all the bits DH needs for his finger - would you believe we've just spent €83 euros on it all!! We should get some of it back, eventually, but I'm sure you can imagine the shock! Just think of all the wool I could have bought with that!

Anyway, Shez - thanks for responding to Gillypep and, hopefully, putting her mind at rest.

Gillypep - I pm'd you earlier because I was saddened that you mentioned the 'in-crowd' on here and I'm really sorry you have that impression of this thread. I can understand how an established thread like this can be a bit daunting for newbies (I felt exactly the same when I first found the OS board, but I am so glad I perservered and now feel a true part of it) but, please do come on in and join us - we are a very warm, friendly and welcoming group, and would love to get to know you.

    Good morning all,

It’s a bit of a grey morning here but the sun is trying to get through the clouds so fingers crossed for later.

F1widow – our posts crossed yesterday – what beautiful cards, I’d love to buy some, you’re so talented.:T

Gillypep, welcome to the thread, I actually enjoy making the chains for the little tea cosy hats, for me it means another one finished! I have a favourite little hat pattern – a mock cable rib – nice and stretchy - which is my back up knit when I don’t know what to do next.

Shazrobo, glad to see you posting today. Your Mum sounds a real treasure, anyone who volunteers to sew up is an absolute angel!:A

Mioliere – hope your DH is feeling better today! What a good (if painful) excuse for a restful weekend.

Maytaurus, love the quote from Proust, thank you!:heartsmil

ISOM lovely positive words from you this morning, I hope the kitty gets better soon. Good luck with the plan for only 2 wips, I’m too much of a flibbertigibbet to only have 2, no I’m not going to count mine :

Shezmit you do a marvellous job, fitting the Preemies workload into your very busy life. :T

Orkneystar – what a quick learner you are – well done! Postage is a problem perhaps your best bet is to keep things until you have enough to use all of the weight allowance - 1kg Packet - Royal Mail definition :
“ Length: over 353mm Width: over 250mm Thickness: over 25mm” costs £2.70 second class.
