    morning everyone!

elaine, what a cutie, i bet you just love pinching his cheeks and playing with his little toes - i know that i would.

kathy - i know just how you feel - my dad is a builder and our whole life seemed to be living in doer-uppers. i remember for months we had a kitchen sink that was suspended mid-air, hanging only by the pipes that fed it water and a couple of 2 by 4's. how it stayed there, i dont know!

those lovely kemps people must have heard about how serious my wool buying disease was and they sent the wool very quickly, it came yesterday lunch time, i was so excited that i started a little oxfam jumper straight away and now have a strained finger for all my efforts, but also am a quarter way through the jumper. i just love crochet!

chalky, i think i might (if i can find some eyelash wool) offer to knit some hedgies for you, however, you are going to have to sew them up and most definitely put faces on them as i am very very very rubbish at that kind of thing. let me know if i should go on the lookout and i would love it help if you need it.

isom, good luck with the violin lessons, that sounds like fun. you are really tackling the "learning new things" idea - good for you, rather inspiring!

    have a wonderful day everyone

Well we all know the things we love about this thread the most --- a generosity of spirit that really makes you think about all that is good in the world.
I am personally so grateful to Kathy for starting it. You only have to be watching Mrs Twins to see that she is having the same experience from all over the world.

I never mentioned the hedgies to bring them into the arena of sending with the squares.
Let me give anyone new a brief history of last year in Spain
A local knitting group heard about our work and decided to help us last year as their winter project. This year they have a different scheme although 1 lovely lady is still knitting like mad for us but she has a broken shoulder at the moment.
When we returned to the UK in April we bought back all their donations plus all that I had been working on -- so the Sunshine bus was stuffed with woolly things-- hence the picture of the Teddy Bears Picnic.
    We were absolutely delighted.
2 Enormous parcels were sent to lou at Loving Hands
Soon afterwards we all became involved in the Memory Blankets for Dear Jim and we were delighted to send those off to Elaine as a small token of our affection for her
At about this time I started 2009's obsession with hedgies for toys for Lou and it suddenly struck me that there was a little Hedgehog rescue hospital in thge village where we live. I contacted the owner and explained about our charity and she asked to see the hedgies. To be fair its only a small organisation who do a lot with rescued hedgies and I don't think things are that easy with the recession. However, Steph listened and was interested in our projects. She offered to give the hedgies a go at £1. 50 each ( That is what she gives me and adds on a ssmall amount for herself). At the end of the Summer when she shut for the winter I used the remaining pennies from the hedgies to buy wool for this winters Chrity knitting and made a donation to Lou's shed
During the summer she sold my stash and this spring she has asked for more so we are off again.

It is strange that Mrs Twins and I had the same idea about squares in the new year and again I thank you for all your support. I remember when the idea came to mind we were all feeling a little lack lustre after a busy Christmas and Lous challenges had been postponed. So I know soon the squares will come tumbling in and already people have lovely ideas where they would like them to go -- I am particularly hoping that PFUNGI pops back in as I wanted to senf 1 to the home where her Mum was in her memory.
So of course when Steph asked for more hedgies I was pleased as again it will help with all those postage costs.

However, I in no way want anyone to feel they must go out and spend precious pennies on anything hedgie but if you wnt to pop 1 in your squares parcel -- if you have made any --- that would be wonderful-- stuffed ,unstuffed . features added or not anything is fine but PLEASE PLEASE don't feel in any way bound to do any of my hairbrained schemes -- they just pop up in a bonkers way and off I go

Will pop back later ---- DMIL busy knitting Spanish baby hats!!!

Hi Chalky - thanks for your kind words. The gratitude is all mine, though, because you are all so generous with your time and materials. This little acorn would never have grown into the mighty oak it's become without it; it would have just been a little idea that could have been nice - what it turned into is phenomenal and has well and truly shown me that, despite a lot of sadness, gloom and anxiety in the world, most people are decent, compassionate, kind and generous, especially to those who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in need. I yearn to be able to do so much more towards it and I feel guilty that my life lately seems to have done all it can to prevent me doing what I really really want to do. I keep close to me a vision that that will soon change - it's what keeps me going through the nightmare that is this house renovation! It's awkward, messy and disruptive but I know that there are people who would give all they have to be in my situation. At least I HAVE got a house - many people have lost theirs (and more) in earthquakes and so on, so I try very hard not to feel too sorry for myself.

I think it's wonderful how your hedgies are earning their keep, so to speak - a brilliant result down to your hard work and initiative. I can't imagine you failing at anything, Chalky!

The squares are an amazing idea, really, because , although warm blankets will always be in demand, handknitted (or crocheted!) colourful ones mean that something purely useful, can bring even more pleasure to someone's life. I don't think the world could ever have too many squares!

Well, things are still chaotic here, to say the least. BIL is going shopping for the radiators that should have been bought and fitted a couple of days ago, I have a 'kitchen' (I use that term loosely) full of tools, ladders and other c**p (!), the water board are digging up my garden and the road outside - I now have a working sink but they've turned the water off while they do their digging bit - I just can't win! On the plus side, I managed four rows of crochet last night!!!

Anyway, will love and leave you because I think I am in someone's way now.

Have a great day, everyone - will catch up with you later.

Kinsey --- That is so wonderful -- to be posed at Question Time Methinks!!!

ISOM-- Good Luck with the hexagons. I know how much wonderful work you do with the cat blankets so please don't involve yourself in any more expense sending wool. Maybe 1 day I may be near your neck of the woods and we could meet!!

Kathy --- Magic Carpet -- arriviNg about 3.00 !! I wish I could send it to give you a break -- It sounds horrendous--- But it will be wonderful soon!!!!

As for being able to do things--- That made me giggle -- Oh the Internet is a wonderful illusionary way of communicating!!
I could start a never ending list of things that I can not do from
Not being able to wake up in the morning -- to being as supple as a brick in Yoga and hundreds of other thing in between !!

Off to buy some BRAGAS for DMIL
