I always thought it was nice to do traditional blues and pinks and lemon but I'll be sticking to white now with the odd bit of colour here and there.0 -

If I get anything else done tomorrow I'll count it in next weeks totals. Gave up on the new pattern of crochet squares as I sat & watched Desperate Housewives that I'd Sky+ earlier in the week and wanted an easy thing to follow so carried on with granny squares
Have a good evening everyone & I'll be on tomorrow.

Hi all, been a few days since last posted but have been popping in to keep an eye on things. Don`t know where this week has gone !!
Just been reading the info about knitting for preemies and thought I`d let you know what the nurses in our local neonatal/special care nursery told me. They don`t actually use knitted buntings there (too absorbent) but like the satiny/cotton sewn versions which I handed in on behalf of LH.
They also said that for stillborn/short lived `angels` they prefer white or cream gowns, for the reasons specified in that article. The babes look better in them. They also told me that white or cream is better for the very early miscarried angels as the sex is not always defined, although a wee touch of lemon/mint or something takes off the starkness. They love to have pretty blankets so that the parents can take them home as a reminder of their wee one, the nurses said that the mum`s often say they can smell their babies on them. (I`m sitting here in tears just thinking about those poor people.)
I`m not sure if the hospitals Shelly supplies have similar preferences ??
Have to go now and dry off, will be back later.

Kathy Have a wonderful time ! We shall miss you but will look forward to you popping in.
I have reverted to hooking for a little while -- puppies are in the pound!!
Lovely totals and work everyone.Try and do a good deed every day.0 -
psso - did your lady at the hospital say anything about the hats the size of an egg like in the link (Im sure thats how I read it) - thats really stressed me that they are that small - still if you think of the size of the buntings we do. ......... oh it just does not bear thinking about - makes me realise a few aches and pains and feeling tired is nothing
Ive never seen the material buntings - i really "enjoy" (i know that does not sound the right word given the circumstances) knitting the buntings and like someone else said even though its such a sad item every one is knitted with a little loving thought for the family from me.
Given the "absorbancy" issue with knitted buntings Im thinking the lacey pattern I made up for the buntings may not now be such a good idea
Dinner needs cooking just a quick pop in to catch up - back in later xxx
PS Kathy - if i miss you later - you and OH have a safe journey and take care - have a lovely time and dont forget when you hit british soil give us a wave xxxxDebt Diary: Im not going to be an Ostrich anymore -LBM - 16/1/12 /0 -

Thanks for the link Always Poor - got halfway through and thought I had to ask a question re: hats - the information says they need egg size hats - oh my - is that about the same circumference as an IS hat do you think???? - how sad - makes me think that a lot of the hats ive knitted must be huge then - who would have thought they need that size so....
shezmit - have you ever been asked for this size and if not do you want us to do some ???? - if so let us know what you think on size
That article was so interesting - had not even thought of colours - had often wondered whether some mums would want some strong colours never did any though as thought it might offend - off to finish reading it
Very interesting about the colours, but not sure about the egg thing - 20.5cm is bigger than any egg I've seen and much bigger than the IS hats0 -

I usually put the squares to be counted for totals and just tell people if I have enough for a finished blanket rather than putting it in the totals, otherwise it's a bit confusing.
Sorry there were no instant answers at the hospital - hope that they can do better in 2 weeks time!0
