:j Bags I the pink one with the little sprinkles !!!!

Sorry, should have said hello first, but they look sooooooo yummy and I`m sitting here with a cuppa by me - and no cake :(. Ah well, better for the waistline I suppose.

Well, I`m crawling out from under a big black cloud that`s been hovering over head for a few days, as yet another `date` has gone by (Dad 28yrs ago) and thinking of everyone on here in the same/similar sad situation so (((group hug))) to all of you from me.

Special hug for you f1widow and mini f1 - go for it girl and give `em what for. Teachers like that give the rest of them a bad name. We had to have serious words about one of DD`s teachers in her final year. The woman was always picking on her for no reason and belittling her in front of the rest of the class and when she stood up for herself she was sent to the year head for punishment. We requested an interview with them and asked about the child protection policy in school as in our opinion DD was being verbally abused by a member of staff - they didn`t like that much.
DD couldn`t be moved to a different class as there wasn`t a suitable one but the teacher concerned must have been taken to task as she didn`t pick on DD again for the rest of the year :) It makes me  when bullying isn`t dealt with. Rant over :o.

Lots of lovely pics of knitting - sadly I can`t find the cable which attaches my camera to the computer so I can`t join in. I`ve probably put it in `a safe place` just need to remember where that is.

LC Wilson - it`s hard disposing of things isn`t it, makes it more real knowing they won`t be coming back to use stuff. Must admit I still have some of Jim`s things ( his old gardening trousers and t shirts which are no use for anything else anyway) tucked away in a drawer. One day I`ll get rid of them, but until then, well they`re not doing any harm.

Am cracking on with the squares for Do on Loving Hands at the moment so Baby things are on hold for a day or two. DD`s Bump is progressing nicely thank you - I forget who asked the other day. Still suffering from the 3 `S`s` sickness, sleepiness and scratchy. They`ll pass.............eventually ;)

Judging by the yummy smell coming from the kitchen my chicken must be ready to come out. Roll on tea time.

    See you all later.

Hi all. I've been busy working all afternoon so, now that dinner is on, I thought I'd pop in and see how you all are.

Elaine - it's good to hear from you and to know that the cloud has gone. Great to hear about your DD - not long now, is it?

Jean - the cakes look really delicious. Well done on making them look so real!

Well, no woolly stuff has been done today. This morning I had to run a few errands and get some milk, and I was surprised by how cold it was when I went out. I thought it was warming up but the temperature has definitely gone down again. Anyway, surely spring is out there somewhere!

I shall be settling down early this evening; well, that's the plan. I need to sew the ends in on my DO squares then pack them up ready for posting. As it's less than two weeks until we come back to the UK, I might save posting them until then - it will save on postage and probably won't take much longer than it would to post them from here this week.

F1widow - I do hope your DS had a better day at school today.

Elaine - I was saddened by your school story. My grandchildren haven't been bullied but one of DGS's teachers was not very nice to him when he pointed out that she had spelled something on the board incorrectly! He was right but she didn't like it. He was too young to realise that maybe he should have kept quiet. Then my DGD had the same teacher at the same age and, on one occasion, the teacher asked the class a question and, when DGD put her hand up to answer, she said 'there's no point asking you because you're pants at this'! DGD was only six at the time and it really upset her. Her Mum and Dad were annoyed that it had been said in front of the whole class, and that the teacher had used childish language. Anyway, they got an apology from the teacher and the head and was told that, yes, it was completely unacceptable for a teacher to behave in that way. I think there's a saying that goes something like 'people might forget exactly what you said that upset them, but they will never forget how it made them feel'. I think all teachers should have this as their mantra - it would make them think twice before they speak.

Anyway, time to turn the potatoes over in the oven!

Well very late on parade today but just wanted to pop in and say hello. Gentle thoughts to all those wishing a rainbow would appear right over them, right now!!

Been a funny kind of a day ( knew it would be as DD2 is 23 today) All well at home she stayed at DD1'S last night and Buster bought in her presents this morning. Wish her birthday was not at the end of Jan!! Of course in reality we would probably only see her for about 10 minutes between work and night out but there we go !!Her work coleagues gave her 2 mice !!!!!! Just what we wanted in the house!!

Well what a storm we have had. Thunder, lightening, hail, rain like I have never seen and everything else thrown in !! Very fitting!!

Well I decided to do what I love best-- sorting out my wool --- Well I must say I thought I was tidy but now it is ridiculous all sorted according to shade, ply, size of ball etc etc. Anyway I have given myself a challenge which is
as the boxes are overflowing and I cant bear to throw even the tiniest ball out I am making Chalky squares with all the scraps. It actually means that you have about 12 on the go but it is very satisfying !!!

Well television now given up the ghost so its hooking and an early night for me !!!
Try and do a good deed every day.

Chalky - I agree it`s not good having a birthday at the end of January. Weather usually totally unsuitable for a picnic outside and I was never too keen on inside ones. I was supposed to be a Burns baby but stayed in a few days longer, must have been cold that year. Suppose we could have two birthdays like the Queen ??

Well, have finished the big square and started the smaller one but I`m not really in the mood so I think I`ll toddle off to bed with my book instead as the youngsters are watching something on the telly.

    Night all, see you tomorrow.

Maytaurus - stop putting temptation in our way !!!!! Got the email this morning and have deleted it so that I don`t look......well maybe just a wee peek.....no I`m going to bed !!!

  • Hi everyone. I am so bored I feel like sticking my head in the oven, but its electric!! (bum bum!)

Anyway, I'm a fairly good knitter although I havent sewed parts of clothing together, so I need to learn that. I bought the Crochet mag a couple of weeks ago, and really cant get the hang of that, so I wont bother unless I find someone who can sit down and show me.

So, basically, I havent picked up my needles in a very long time, and thought that seen as though I need a new mobile phone sock I would start with that.. I have searched this thread but can find one, can anyone help pleeeaseee... Or I will resort to sticking my head down the loo haha
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

If you really cant knit very well, then practise drumming with the needles...

    Hi :)

Welcome to the thread, you're going to love it around here.

I have been knitting since I was about 4 years old and can follow most patterns, but I've never been much good at crochet. I could manage a basic granny square but wanted to do more. Tried reading books, but found written instructions really difficult to understand because it was hard to tell if I was doing things right. Then I went to you tube and found loads and loads of clips. They are great :T you can actually see what you have to do and can play them over and over until you get the hang of them. I've managed to do baby bibs, baby hats, blankets, and even little flowers. Just go to you tube and type 'crochet' in the search box. You will most likely find clips showing you how to sew up your knitting projects too.

As for the phone cover. Try creating an account here, it may take a day or two to get a response to your request to join, but there are thousands of free knitting and crochet patterns for anything you could possibly wish for.

    Good luck

  • Thank you Lorna, I will certainly have a look tomorrow, getting a bit tired now so that wont help me learn!

The internet is a great place for everything now... It never fails to amaze me!
