Lorna I am new to this thread so don't 'know' you as well as others do but I just wanted to say that you are in my prayers & thoughts right now. It must be so hard losing your Mam and I know that nothing I can say will make you feel better. We lost my MIl almost 2 weeks ago & are still all up & down with it so understand a little what you are going through. Much love to you xxxx

Kathy I don't know the lady on Loving Hands at all as I haven't joined that forum but would love to knit a square for her. Is it any 6" square in DK on 4mm needles? Am I right in assuming that it'd be 30sts x 30rows? TIA

I'm back already and in total shock. My brother just found his MIL dead :( I just received a sympathy card from her in the post yesterday as she couldn't get to mam's funeral because of the weather. Her name was Rosie and she was lovely, she called in a couple of times over the Christmas to see mam.

SIL Valerie had been ringing her all evening and couldn't get a reply so she and my brother went up to her house. They couldn't get an answer so Den broke in and found her in her chair. The telly and fire were on and she hadn't picked up the post this morning, so they don't know how long she had been there. There will definitely have to be an autopsy because of the circumstances, so poor Valerie won't even be able to begin to make arrangements. She and her mother were exceptionally close, and bad as it was for me with mam at least I was with her when she went, I don't know how she is going to cope with the fact that her mam was all alone.

Actually just popped on t say our door bell rang this morning and when I opened the door there was a lady standing on the step with an enormous bag of wool. All sorts -- some Phildar--- and she simply said she had heard I was the woman who knitted for charity and she wanted to help==== Amongst all the sadness how lovely is that. Squares here we come !!! Sleep well everyone

lc wilson, how sad, and what a shock it must have been for him to find her. my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.

went to textere this morrning, as i needed some retail therapy, i bought, 50 balls of james c brett kool kotton, in 5 different colour, i absolutly love this yarn for summer tops, washes lovely, never needs ironing. also bought 2 balls twilleys freedom wool, and a pattern to go with it for some mittens.
also bought a lovely sirdar pattern book called early arrivals, it has patterns from a prem size 10 inch chest to one year olds. the patterns are all sooooo cute, and look relatively easy.

also while out today, bought myself a new top, and a new kitchen table and chairs, my old lot where 14 year old, and very tatty.

  • Sorry to hear of everyone sadness.
I lost my Mum 18 years ago, had to work it out, I didn't realise how long ago it was.
She chose the music for her funeral herself, she had lung cancer so had time to plan. She chose Whiter Shade of Pale by Procul Harem (sp) & I will survive by Gloria Gaynor, unfortunately between choosing the music & the actual funeral Weetabix started using I will survive, in their advertising, so my Mum got cremated to the Weetabix advert. She would have seen the funny side.

Thinking of you and all those who have lost loved ones
And those like myself who are sad & feel helpless in difficult circumstances
I wish I knew what to say to make things better
but sometimes words just aren't enough.
May it comforts you to know friends are thinking of you
and remembering you in their prayers
    Hoping your treasured memories
bring you comfort day by day
May knowing that you are doing something positive for someone else console you in some small way :A

Oh, Lorna - I can't believe what I've just read in your post. I am so so sorry to hear such dreadful news. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time. I don't know what else to say because, sometimes, it's so hard to find the right words.
