Hi all.
Pam - I am so pleased you have such a good friend in Pam's Pal. I'm sure she'll help you through this sad dark time in your life. I'm glad that the knitting and crochet are helping, too.
Sunny Girl - (((Hugs))) to you and your family.
Welcome to Blackcrow - I see that Kinsey has pointed you in the right direction. I do hope you enjoy it here - this is a lovely friendly thread.
Well, we've just been out to get some more milk and it is the coldest I've ever known it in my life! A light sprinkling of snow and a very keen wind is not helping, either! DH has just reminded me that we need to go back out to collect the new flooring for the room he's been working on, so we will have to go out again - all the shops close on Sundays, so we can't leave it until tomorrow. I also need to post some letters so I shall do that then hopefully stay in the warm for the next few days.
I see that it's stilll very bad across the UK so I hope you are all keeping warm and safe and taking great care if you really have to venture out.

Gentle thoughts especially to Pam, SunnyGirl and Salome and of course to anyone else who is struggling at the moment!
Welcome to Blackcrow -- Hookers very welcome !
Well we are still just pretending we are definitely going tomorrow -- ( forecast isn't too promising!!) We leave Newto Abbot by train to Bristol and then a shuttle to the Airport. Flight to Alicante to pick up the Sunshine Bus then a two hour drive south to our house.
So I have tidied up my wool stash here and am hoping to finish of the 3rd lapacuddlyghan for the challenge!! Some hooking and sewing to be done by the fire this afternoon.
Doh just off to tramp through the snowy lanes to deliver a present for a LO'S birthday -- too slippy for car journeys !!
Kathy it sounds freezing where you are please take care especially as you are nearly at the time for your trip to see all the family here.
Lots of good wishes to one and allTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
Hi everyone, slightly warmer here today than yesterday -2 today , was -9.5 yesterday bitterly cold and too cold for snow. Had a few more showers today though.
Ds & I went out to try to clear some of the snow off the roof of the greenhouse yesterday as I was a bit worried about the weight of the snow on the roof. It`s a big one - 16 x 24 feet so didn`t want broken glass everywhere. Armed ourselves with long sticks and started `sweeping` the snow off. The snow is about 3` deep alongside it so was a bit tricky but we were managing until my feet slipped from under me and I landed flat on my back, banging my head on the dog`s kennel - ouch !! Now resting my aches and pains on the sofa but it hasn`t stopped me knitting.
Will pop back later as just had a call from DD requesting taxi service
Hugs to all who need them esp.Pam,Sunnygirl and Salome and anyone else who is having a rough time at the moment.
WELCOME to the newbies - I`m sure you`ll enjoy it here.

Just quick while I have
a. Electric
b. Computer access
c. Broadband connection
d. No boys to cook for
Have had snow since Tuesday...and its now 18" deep (36cms) DH and DS -due to rotten weahter - left Wednesday for the airport and got there even if it took them twice as long as usual. Only to find that the flight was cancelled so they returned here and booked the ferry from Saint Malo for this evening. They left here at lunch time and still aren't at the ferry terminal! But they are still on the road - thank you snow chains, with luck they will get away tonight. DH did say he would come back tomorrow (due to weather etc) but I am not holding my breath on that one I think he will just go to work. I am managing to keep myself occupied bringing in the wood for the stove, walking dogs and generally keeping out of mischief - so far. I walked down the lane to the B road this afternoon and its no better there - think they only one on that was DH when he left today. Not to worry, no doubt it will all dissapear as soon as the sun comes out. I have plenty in the cupboards, etc so I shall continue with the crochet book and see how far I can get. Kathy thanks for the PM - have had a couple of electricity outages as well as loss of the broadband connection, oh and the telly has been on the DARTS for the boys. YUK. So this evening its a film, a soft seat, two lovely cuddley big dogs, some crochet and ME. Will try and get on tomorrow too as I have updated the 2010 spready for you ready to start just a wee bit of tweak and it will be finished.
You all take great care regardless of what your up to, welcome all new folks - lovely to see you, I am going to try and catch up with the reading of the forum before the next cut out! Chalky hope you get your flight.

Hi
Just had to tell everyone - I've finished my first little blanket! It's come out a tiny bit bigger than expected as I'm still getting used to the tension, but overall I'm very chuffed!
I've had a lovely cosy, lazy Saturday afternoon and already cast on for the next one. I refused to go anywhere today as driving in this weather terrifies me and I've had enough with getting to work and back this week!
Stay safe and warm everyone.
GillIf swimming is good for your figure, can someone please explain whales?0 -
Hi all.
Chalky - thank you for your concern. It's not actually dangerous here; we don't have the ice that the UK has and, luckily, we haven't had deep snow. It's been snowing lightly all day and I've had the feeling for days that we are really in for it at some point. As it is, we don't need to go out for anything for about a week if necessary, so we are well-prepared! If it does get bad DH has been working on all sorts of strategies to cope if we lose power so I'm not unduly worried. As long as I keep in touch with the family back home for reassurance that they are coping (which they all are, very well!) I am more than happy. I quite like this 'seige mentality', the thought of staying in with my knitting, crochet, books, and a constantly-boiling kettle is really comforting.
Of course, if I was enduring anything like what poor Jean is going through, I might not feel quite so happy.
Jean - I do hope things get better for you very soon. It must be very difficult, especially if the power keeps going. Don't worry too much about the spready - you've got a lot going on there at the moment!
Elaine - hope you're not too sore. Take it easy.

Elaine Ooh hope you're taking it easy now after your fall
Jean Hope that the power stays on for you to enjoy a film with the dogs.
Kathy I couldn't agree more that it's actually pretty good to be curled up with knitting, crochet, books, the fire & cuppas :T
Well the reason I came on is that I have finished my first 8" square :j It looks very colourful - stripes of yellow, green, blue, orange repeated twice. It reminded me of some of the handknitted jumpers I used to wear as a child in the 1970's :rotfl: Probably nicer colours though as I recall a brown & orange one that was much detested by me but just kept growing with me for years :p
I'm going for a hot bath now and then some more knitting while watching NCIS on Ch5. Have a good evening all0 -
this is view out of the kitchen window...
hope it works- if I hadn't opened the shutters I wouldn't have that much view either.

Hi Everyone
Jean, you sound relieved to swap the boys for your dogs - I take it the dogs let you watch what you want on telly.
Elaine, hope you aren't too battered or Mrs MP. The ice is so dangerous.
Glad you are all prepared Kathy - in true OS tradition
Dally, well done with your blanket. We'd love to see a picture if you can.
Chalky, hope your journey back is safe and not too difficult.
have been doing some hackey sacks in RWB but not really enjoying them - the increases at the start are horrible so may try and fudge the pattern or (more likely) start something else and go back to them at some other point
Hugs to Salome, Sunnygirl and Pam and anyone else who wants one.
Hope everyone is safe and warm.0 -
