Hi re: the Harry Hill toy knitting pattern - I found one on ebay (purchased for a charity auction for Troops in Afghanistan) - thanks ladies (if anyone wants it would be happy to email it - I asked the lady who designed the pattern if she would not mind it being used for charity purposes and she was only too pleased.
Whilst sending me the pattern the lady told me that the government want to scrap reduced/free posting to BFPO and they want people to sign a petition for this vital postage not to be scrapped so people can still write and send parcels to their loved ones anyone interested
http:/petitions.number10.gov.uk/saveBFPO
I have signed the petition and forwarded it to loads of people, but got this from my cousin (whose nephew is in the army so he tends to find out about things)
"The petition - particularly in the "More details" section - implies that
BFPO is being withdrawn from Europe. My understanding is that BFPO will
continue for Europe. I believe that what are being closed are the Forces
Post Offices providing support to UK contingents at twelve NATO bases,
namely 6 Lisbon, 8 Naples, 26 SHAPE, 28 Brunssum, 49 Brussels, 50 Stavanger,
61 Milan, 62 Valencia, 63 Norfolk VA, 65 Rome, 109 Ramstein and 150 Karup.
Personnel at these sites will apparently receive an uplift in Living
Overseas Allowance to offset any costs arising from the closures.
So, certainly not ideal, but nothing like as bad as the petition suggests."
I will try and find out more0 -
Pam,
so sorry to hear your news on logging on just now - you and all your family are in my thoughts and sending a virtual squeeze in your direction. I know from my own experience of Mum not being there anymore how hard it is, even if it is "expected" (not worded right, but you know what I mean).
Take care, and you know where I am if you need a shoulder/pm me....
Lots of love,
Dawn xx:hello:0 -

Hi all,
i am new, so firstly... i'm sorry to read about your mum Pam, peaceful loving thoughts to you.
secondly... i would love to join in making things for charity like you guys but after reading the threads and links i am still not much wiser where to start?! some help would be greatly appreciated... I tought myself to crochet last year and have taken to it like a duck to water and love doing a bit each evening, but i cannot knit to save my life (after many years of several different people trying to teach me and using the internet i officially give up, lol) SO... i need to find a charity which i can crochet items for rather than knit. Personally i have reasons to support animal charitys and those supporting deceased babies more than others, so they would be a preference, but i don't mind whether i post to the UK or Africa.
Hope someone can help...

Thank you all so much for all your support and prayers, they give me such comfort. You are always such a generous, loving group of people. Special thanks for the PMs.
We’ve spent the day making a few of the many difficult ‘phone calls required, it was particularly important for us to contact Mums occasional visitors in case they decided to visit as they would often “drop in when passing”. We’re unable to start the funeral arrangements or even register the death just yet as we need 2 doctors to sign the certificate (as Mum is being cremated) & mums GP wasn’t available today so we’ll pick it up on Monday!
I get fleeting thoughts about what I’m going to do with myself now? I’m going to have to find a new structure for my daily life – Mum’s been my focus since my DH died 6 years ago.
I suppose, if I must, I could build a routine around house***k / iro***g - YUK :rotfl: - don’t think so. I will keep visiting the Nursing home (though not so often) & see what’s going on there, I have my CRB certificate & there’s always something to be done if its only placating the “crankies” from time to time, or doing some admin.
Meanwhile, (back on topic) I knitted a mitred square & I love the fact that it keeps my interest, looks good too, I’ve nearly finished a crocheted mitre square & I really love the ease of it – honest its soooo easy! Once finished I’ll photo them both (LOL) and post the links &/or instructions.
PamsPal has, as ever, been a tower of strength, knowing when to leave me be & when to insist - last night, when I got the call that we were needed, despite my protests, her DH got up & dressed to walk me through the icy estate to meet my brother who was picking me up – just how kind is that!
OK – that’s enough for now! I don’t half rattle on when I get started eh!
THANKS once again
Luv
Pam:smileyhea
blackcrow, thank you and Welcome to the thread. One of our preemie baby charities is http://ukpreemies.blogspot.com/ & we often respond to animal charity requests, either from member of this thread or from another favourite charity http://lovinghands.freeforums.org/index.php which can find a home for ANYTHING.

Hi all,
Pam so sorry to hear your sad news, virtual ((hugs)) from me.
I haven't been in for a few days as its been hectic here, every trip out takes longer on the icy paths, I ventured out in the car on thursday to asda as I had nearly run out of everything, only slid once trying to stop at a junction so i was lucky really, they haven't gritted anywhere here at all, the bin men haven't been as they can't get the lorries down the lanes.
DH just got back from town and he said its colder than yesterday, which I think was about -6, we haven't had a lot of snow so I really hope everyone is keeping warm and safe where you are.
On the knitting side I've made 2 squares so far in between finishing off other projects that have knocking around for a bit. Plan to have a quiet weekend knitting as it keeps me warm.
Hugs to all.x:jWooligans Totals 2010:

Hi All,
I haven't been on for a couple of days with everything going on but wanted to say Pam I am so sorry to read about your Mum. It is a comfort to know that she isn't suffering anymore but very sad nonetheless. The biggest of love to you & I will remember you in my prayers.
MIL is still the same really at the moment. We are at the nursing home so much that we should have our own rooms at the moment! Everyone is keen to be with her though which is good. She has gone very silent & isn't talking, even to my DH or SIL which I was upset at yesterday until a kind person from the Daily Thread pm'd me & mentioned that it may be morphine thats making her foggy.
I haven't done any knitting since Wednesday evening but I'm hoping to get some done this afternoon. It is a very calming & contemplative hobby and I always feel better when I'm doing it/have done it :T
I have given up trying to get hold of The Art of Crochet now as all the shops appear to have sold out. I got 2 beginners books from the library instead and ordered one called The Happy Hooker :rotfl: It caused a raised eyebrow or two when I was ordering it until I explained that it was DEFINITELY about crochet
Have a good day all & keep warm & safe in this cold weather xx0
