welcome dally-dont worry about slow - lots of us are beginners! My thinking is that if youre slow more thought/time goes into it!! That said wish I could knit faster!
Popped in to ask if anyone has any handy hints on sewing squares up into small cat blankets...any do's and donts. Can learn by trial and error but so much nicer to learn from others to avoid too much error!!

  • This is the first time that i have posted here - please take pity on me.

I would love to take part in some knitting/crotchet ideas but have only limited skills. I can cast on and off, knit & purl, increase and decrease but that is definately all.
I love the idea of producing something for charity - could anyone suggest a starting point of easy (but rewarding) and needed projects. A link to a pattern would be great also.
What do you do with your finished items?

Sorry if this has been posted by others - it is such a long thread to read through.

    Any help very gratefully recieved.

Hi chumbasmum - Welcome to this amazing thread - perhaps you would like to join in with our new challenge - back to the roots of the thread, we are knitting squares - this time 8" ones. Chalky75 suggested this & has offered to sew them into blankets or "lapghans", for those of us who dislike sewing up. The only decision made so far is that they're made from DK yarn, you can knit or crochet them, be as plain or fancy as you like - its a good opportunity to try out some different stitches.

I have put together a page with 3 basic squares this can be found here :
    http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AYHcRHOJWSyEZGZwbWZkNHRfNGhtNjlqbmRu&hl=en_GB

For some different stitches take a look here: http://www.knittingonthenet.com/stitches.htm

Give a shout if you need any help -we can usually answer most questions between us.

    luv

    Happy New Year everyone.

I have been MIA for the last few days as my MIL is very poorly & expected to die in the next few days. We have all been spending most of our time up at the care home with her. I have kept knitting though as it keeps me busy and I am liking the thought that as one life is ending another one will be beginning to wear the little things that I'm knitting IYSWIM?

I have finished my first preemie cardie tonight and am very pleased with it :T I shall wash it and put it away until there's a few things to post off at once. I've cast on a ventilator bonnet but not started the actual knitting yet. My Mum is coming up tomorrow for the day so I will give her some wool, needles & a written pattern so that she can get knitting too. She's very keen to get involved.

Have a good evening all & I'll be back tomorrow hopefully.
