  • Good morning all! Happy New Year! Isoke and I had a nice eve with starting jumper (decided to go for it and intermingle with charity stuff - doesent matter if it takes ages) and watching itv thriller before extreme makeover. Heard the new year in watching it in bed!! Today going to take down decs, hoover and do some paperwork. Hoping weather stays nice for tomorrow as will have an allotment day! Love the blanket nunnygirl. Great when you see things finished! miskool dont give up - it takes time to get the hang of things like tension etc (I have to conciously not get "sloopy/loose" knitting as I go on...a bit like handwriting lol!) ...worth it when you get there!!

    Hello everyone :hello:
Havent been in for a while but just wanted to wish you all a .........
    HAPPY NEW YEAR
I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy 2010

DS1,DIL and DGD's have managed at last to get up here for a few days, they were snowed in over christmas, so none of them had their presents, this morning was like another Christmas day when they were opening them with all the wrapping paper strewn all over the place :D

I am cooking another Christmas dinner for us all today, pork not turkey (I could'nt stand any more of that) with all the trimmings, and christmas pud.yummm

Well better go get sorted, we have the girls and DS1 and DIL have been packed off to Merry Hell to the sales (rather them than me)
They should be back around 3:00 so dinner will be ready for then.hmmm maybe ;)
We are making necklaces and bracelets from a HUGE present for the girls from my Mum, after Lunch so it looks like we will all be very colourful later on:rotfl:

DGD's are sitting on the sofa watching a DVD and wearing their ruffle scarves with the wrist warmers, :D they love them and I am sooo pleased.
MIL and Mum both loved theirs as well and MIL asked for another pair so she has one to wear and one to wash ;)

Have good days all, I hope you are all well
    Anne

edit: Hopefully I will get properly up to date next week, sooo many pages to catch up on, I have had a quick look in now and again but kept getting sidetracked, I have a short attention span at the mo:o

    Our Brand New Year! 2010!!!

I would normally start a whole new thread today but, as we re-started just a few months ago, I shall just mark the start of this brand new year with a post welcoming the year in, tempting newbies to join us, and thanking you all for another successful year.

Our thread will be two years old in March this year, and what a two years it has been! The success of the thread just goes on and on, all thanks to the loveliest most dedicated bunch of people it has been my pleasure to get to know, albeit it virtually.

I remain amazed at how generous and kind-hearted you all are, not only with the making of all those hundreds of items that have found deserving homes this year, but also in the way you show love, encouragement, and support when life deals a blow to one of our lovely group. We have shared sad, anxious, happy and joyful times together and I, for one, am so grateful to have this place to come to when I am feeling unwell, anxious or just a little bit sorry for myself! I always come away renewed and uplifted and, for that, I thank you all.

Thank you all, too, for what you have done for the thread in 2009, in particular, Maytaurus for all those lovely links, pictures, and patterns she finds and shares with us, for Pam and Jean for their help with the updates which used to be such a pain to do (and Jean, again, for keeping me going when I first moved out here – she was the voice of reason and sanity for me), for Chalky for thinking up special projects and sewing up all those squares for us, to those who have found memorable patterns for us all – I’m thinking of Shazrobo with the hedgies, Pam with the fingerless gloves, whoever it was who found the pattern for the Memory and Friendship squares, and even me with that ruffle scarf pattern! All these patterns struck a chord with us and I can only wonder what we can find this year! I know I have probably forgotten some other important things and people and I hope you forgive me for that. I will start keeping a record from now on because I would hate anyone to be forgotten.

Today is the start of our brand new year which I know will be full of adventures such as weddings, new babies, and other celebrations, and, above all, that wonderful spirit of generosity and kindness that has run like a sparkling golden ribbon through this thread since March 2008 – almost two years ago!

Once again, thank you all for making this thread a wonderful place to be; I will always be amazed at its success.

NEWBIES: Please, please join us – you will receive the warmest of welcomes and, right from the start, you will be made to feel a valued member of our ‘family’. It doesn’t matter at what level your knitting, crocheting or sewing skills are – if you can’t do any of them right now, we have ways of helping you learn! There are so many good causes out there; the need for precious handmade items will always be there – the bonus for us is that we benefit, too, from the pleasure of producing something from our own hands.

I would like to wish each and every one of you a Very Happy New Year!

    With love

    Hi all

Maytaurus - I LOVE that pattern; thank you so much. Now I had to decide which dress to make first!

Great to have you back, Pippa!

Thanks to everyone for all the lovely Happy New Year wishes!

My back ache has gone but I'm still going to be taking it easy for the rest of the day. It's bank holiday here, too!

We didn't go out last night because we had yet another thunderstorm with torrential rain - as we have to travel down country lanes to get back home, we decided against it. We saw the New Year in at the right time here (an hour ahead) but stayed up to see it in again on UK time! Just as well because we had lots of phone calls after 1am, so I was so pleased we'd stayed up.

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year's Day and a fantastic 2010.

:hello: Hi chums, just popping in to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you all have a healthy, prosperous and productive woolly one.

Hogmanay here was spent in front of the fire with knitting squares, Thorntons toffees and Harry Potter dvd after tea party with various family members for DGS`s 4th birthday. Young `uns out partying of course, not a party person myself, never have been and don`t suppose this ol` leopard will ever change her spots.

I`d just like to echo Kathy`s words and thank you all for your kindness, love and support the past few months. Things would have been soooo much harder if I hadn`t had you all handing out endless hugs kind thoughts and prayers.
The new year isn`t off to a very good start though. My ex m-i-l had to be admitted to hospital on the 30th and is waiting to go for an emergency bowel operation as I type. She`s nearly 80,very confused and of course the family is very concerned for her. Will just have to cross our fingers for her.
Maybe seems strange that I`m worried about her, but after all she`s my children`s grandma and although we`ve never been bosom buddies we always got on reasonably well. She could have been a LOT worse :rotfl:.

Right, see you later - have a good day everyone.

    Elaine.x

ps Can you send some of your rain to wash away this bloomin` snow please Kathy. Had some more overnight and more flurries this morning.

if anyone has any tiny balls of wool can you make some crochet ties for me so i can add them to ventilator bonnets,

they need to be about 12" longs approx 50 chains and to be in pairs , please leave about 4" tail so i can use them to sew in,

this is a brilliant way to use all your odd ends

    thanks

Reading some of this thread (it's very long!) I've been inspired to dust off my knitting needles with a new year's resolution of knitting for charity. I've been so blessed with 3 healthy children and now a grandchild and feel I'd like to contribute in some way to those who haven't had such a healthy start to life.
I was never the fastest knitter in the world and after 20+ years break I think I'll probably be very slow - but I'm starting with a little blanket to get my skills going again (no shaping!).
Looking forward to joining you all on this board in 2010. :hello:

Another good way to use odd ends is in granny squares as some parts need only a small length of wool.
