Hi everyone Thanks for all the suggestions
I have jotted them down and so far these things have been suggested ----
Old People's Homes
The Homeless
Children's homes
Womens Refuge
Salvation Army.
A charity sponsored by Noel Edmonds
They all sound great and of course there will probably be as many suggestions as there are people on here. All of which are totally worthwhile in their own right.
My Dad was a vet so I hold animal shelters and organisations very close to my heart but I know a lot of vets and Animal Rescue centres do pick up and are given blankets etc from Charity shops and well loved and used blankets from their clients.Often they cut up big blankets to make smaller ones. I have just given his old practice a ring and this is what they do as often the blankets are used post operation and because of risk of infection, soiling etc the blankets are only used once so old ones are best. I would hate to think of our efforts, because of such reasons being only used once.
I think that if we are going to use new wool etc the blankets might be best given to some of the other organisations suggested and I am sure some more will be suggested yet.
This was an idea for us all to focus on so I am quite happy to sew the squares-- I actually enjoy it .So we could perhaps choose one for each charity that people have suggested and then everybody will feel that they have really created something full of love for a cause close to your heart.
We can always add to the list when get enough squares. Lapacuddlyghan size is so perfect and makes laundry etc easier and saves the elderly falling or tripping over trailing blankets.
Of course my addictive qualities may be catching and you end up personally doing a lot of squares and of course how sensible to put your work under the umbrella of Squares 2010 post a picture for us to share and that will quite sensibly save postage costs and middlemen and my sewing. The last thing I want is for anyone to have a financial burden with this --- I think originally I quoted the "price of a cup of coffe in postage " and some fun !!
Obviously lots of people do send their squares to Loving Hands etc and I in no way want to undermine the wonderful work Lou does this was just an idea for a one off project not an ongoing project. If it is really successful maybe we could do it just as a starter project at the beginning of each year. We will seeTry and do a good deed every day.0 -

Shelly Thanks so much for clearing all that up for us all and as we all know you do a wonderful job and it is so lovely you have such support from us all. You must be so busy especially with your wonderful little ones.
Can this little project just run totally independently so that all your time can be taken up with worhwhile causes so close to your heart.
I bet you are still busy sewing up the Aaron squares your dear little one started.
Thanks for offering to help and would love a square or two from you if you have the timeTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
Right Shaz I am going to join you now and get on with some lovely knitting .
Perhaps we don't need to worry about where the blankets go until we see how many squares we get, then we could always just choose a really easy option put one suggestion from each of the people who contribute into a hat and draw it out one after one so that way hopefully everybody feels someone special is the recipient of our lovely projectTry and do a good deed every day.0 -
Good afternoon
I've just spent an hour reading & catching up on the posts since Boxing Day!
I have almost finished my 2nd scarf for DD's friend and have a pattern ready for the Preemie cardigan I'm going to do next :T I will also knit squares for you Chalky as I picked up a book of 200 Knitted Blocks from the library. I thought it'd stretch my skills a bit and provide interest.
Am I right in thinking that 40sts x 40 rows long will make an 8" square? Also is the 40th row the cast off row? Or the 41st? I want to knit them the same size so that Chalky isn't going blind sewing them up :rotfl: Off to cast on the cardigan now. Love to everyone & hope that you are all well.

Sorry if I caused any confusion by asking Shelley what she takes, in the same post as talking about chalky's square challenge!!!!
The hat suggestion is a great one (not knitting hats lol, selecting from one!) Chalky.
