Jean - I love the keyring idea and agree with Kathy, it would look lovely matching everything else. I'm busy doing wrist warmers from a pattern I copied from ISOM's lovely book with matching hats (but as they are for DDs can only do them when house is empty). When DD is in residence I'm knitting a copy of a Gant scarf I saw in John Lewis which cost £60:eek:. It actually cost me £30 for the wool which I had to get in 12 different colours but the pattern is very simple, just 30 rows in each colour, k2 p2 which makes it about 5'10" - luckily my SIL is tall! I downloaded a picture of the scarf from John Lewis website to get the colours right.

Preemie knitting on hold but DD2 is still happily producing tiny cardis. I think she's got the bug because she wants to make herself a long mohair cardi now. She was amazed when I said it's just like knitting a preemie cardi but bigger with more stitches and rows - I think she thought there was some magic secret involved in grown up knitting, lol!

My thoughts go out to everyone who feels sad at Christmas time, especially with all the TV ads etc. It's only ONE single day but it can cause so much heartache. I'm not a great Christmas lover but just get on with it - and luckily on Boxing Day I'm off to the sunshine for a week, can't wait. :cool2:

Salome - I hope you enjoy your day in Cardiff.
  • Me again, thanks for all the lovely thanks folks, perhaps if it wasn't 4 ply wool and a tiny (cotton ) crochet hook I would get on a bit faster, anyway I have managed to do another three of the wee key ring dangley thingies, so will collect up the various keys from around the doors in the house and tie them on.....gonna look really pretty.
Went for a lookee see at the Gant Scarf you mentioned Always Poor..had never heard of them (well I wouldn't would I living out here in the sticks of Brittany) it looks fantastic I take it you are keeping to the colours on the original? good luck with it.
Orkney Star hope your mum is on the mend and home to her own space shortly.
Right-y-oh I am off to do some proper posh mittens for me, selfish I know but hey I am due some sort of reward for all the early mornings this week. Back sometime then.

Jean - Did you crochet the dangly thingeys as you would a curly scarf? I can't crochet but could try knitting as per the knitted curly scarf! Yes, I'm doing the scarf the same colours as best I could find.

EDIT: I'm dim, I just noticed that you've posted the pattern too. I've knitted a frill onto the wrist warmers which might possibly be made to look like that . . . must experiment, haha, when I've got a spare three seconds, lol.

I still haven't tried one of Jean's curly keyring thingys but was thinking that they would also make good handbag charms, could be attached to hair scrunchies, and, if worked in fine crochet thread with a chain, as a necklace, too. Using metallic crochet thread in Christmassy colours, they would make good curly icicles to hang on the Christmas tree - now I've really 'gone off on one', as my DS2 would say! It's no good - I just have to have a go right now!

Always Poor - try googling 'crochet tutorial'; you only need to learn trebles to try Jean's pattern and they're very easy, honest!

ALWAYS POOR - I didn't have a clue about the crochet malarky but was so desperate to do the squiggly scarf, I watched the tutorial for chain and the tutorial for trebles - pictures as well as the vids and then sat and did a trial - the blue and red squiggly thing a couple of pages back was my very first attempt. But as I haven't any double knitting wool (next week tho'-boxes of it arriving from Lou at Loving Hands) I decided that I needed to keep on with the new skill hence the wee key ring twists.
KATHY - you really are taking this all to the next level, not sure I want to go down the gold stuff route but I do have a cone of gold 3 ply for the knitting machine - SO AM OFF TO DO ONE RIGHT NOW ....he he

Jean - you've done really well to learn to crochet. It's how I learned - years ago, I was just as desperate to learn when I was first pregnant and found some lovely crochet baby patterns. I'm so glad I did because I find knitting quite painful these days, although I've enjoyed making my first pair of Pam's fingerless gloves. I'll post a photo tomorrow, once I've sewn them up.

Kathy, I did do crochet when I was about 8 then promptly forgot it all and it was never anything brilliant, see the very first picture on wooligans in February this year the first thing I sent of to LH was dog blankets, knots, mistakes you name it they had it!. here's the latest for a key ring or perhaps dangley earings ha ha

Jean, you beat me to it. Hungry-looking husband turned up so I've got the dinner on and will try your curlies tonight.

Pippa - I haven't done the wrap yet - it's still on my list which is getting longer by the day. I just had to try the fingerless gloves first because I still don't know what colour to do the wrap. I want it to blend with the cushion covers I've yet to make -and so it goes on!
