    Hi all,
Well I have not really posted much for a while. Sadly have no charity stuff for updating my total, and really need to get on with other knittting too.
Kathy- I did not realise you were a dental nurse previously- I am currently getting a partial denture (a tooth or two missing at each side on the bottom- they have been missing for ages so gums well healed), have had the first impressions and going again on Tuesday- any ideas what I can expect ? Sorry to ask you lol!
I am loving seeing the photos on wooligans, the sailor hats are all lovely, and your wrist warmers are really cool Kathy- where would I get a pattern for those ?
Ok, hope everyone is ok, and glad May is home now.
    OS x
ETA Shezmit I have PM'd you :D regarding a small parcel to see if you want it just now.

Hi Orkney - don't worry about asking questions! The usual procedure for a partial denture is that the dentist will take a first impression using an alginate mix spread onto a dental tray the shape of the jaw; once this is in your mouth, it will set in around thirty seconds. It will feel a bit of a mouthful but it's only for a short while. My boss used to tell our patients to breathe slowly through the nose and look at their feet while this bit was going on! That first impression will be sent to the dental laboratory and a basic plaster model will come back, usually the following week, with a wax model of the denture on it. The wax will be warmed and placed in your mouth for you to bite on; this will make sure that the technician at the lab makes the perfect 'bite' for you. This will then be sent back to the lab. The following appointment will be the 'try-in' stage where a trial replica of the finished denture will be sent for you to try in. The dentist will usually take the colour at this stage. He will have a range of individual teeth on little pegs and will hold each one against your natural teeth to get the best colour-match. If you and your dentist are happy with all this, the model goes back to the lab and your new denture will come back the following week. If you are not happy with it, it may need another wax impression. It sounds like a lot of faffing about but it's worth it to get the best results. I was always amazed and impressed by the finished results because they look so realistic these days. I've seen grown men cry with happiness at having their smile restored. Good luck with it all!

Sorry, I read too fast and didn't realise that you had already had the first impression - that's the worst stage over and done with! Lots of people hated that bit because it made them gag!

    Morning everyone :hello:

ooo its cold this morning, but not raining thank goodness,
I have been thinking of those poor people up in Cumbria, especially the older folk, it's bad enough for anyone but I think its worse for them because they are'nt as mobile in a lot of cases,

First off I just want to say Shelley thank you so much for the lovely thought, but I think the same as everyone else the money will be more useful in the postage fund :A
f1widow - ouch!!! I hope you start feeling better soon
chocclare - nice to see you back hope you feel better now
May - hope you are feeling OK and keeping nice and warm in this awful cold weather

Must start dinner now so will seee you all later

  • MOrning everyone from a still soggy Cumbria.
Fortunately we weren't affected too badly here, although our one road in and out was closed in both directions (north and south) for a while, so no deliveries etc and also we've had no internet since Thursday night. But so many people have had so much worse. At least we are warm and dry. All the bridges are now being inspected for stability following the collpase of the one in Workington. We just hope that the one nearest to us is OK as this is on our main road out with no good alternative route. Problem is it just keeps raining.....
Hoping for better days next week for all those affected.
    Take care all

    Ann xx

Glad to hear you are OK Ann. It sounds pretty awful up there with the rain still coming down.
I was thinking Onlygirl and maybe Purple teddy bear are from Cumbria area too but may be mistaken. Either way hope to hear they are OK too.
Ended up doing a boob and a Christmas stocking last night - not what I had planned at all but the needles knew what they were doing! Needed to do easy stuff. Having seen Pippa's lovely stockings with the sequins on, am wanting to jazz mine up too! Also tried one in Aldi green as Pippa's looked nice and pleased with it. Off to supervise homework - back later.

Afternoon ladies - kathy - thanks for your advice - I know the part about crying - I cry watching someone have new teeth on something like a makeover programme - my teeth started disapearing after DS born (were not strong before) so for 8 years I have lived with very little & looking awful - unfortunately due to anxiety & cost I could not have them done - I just cant believe I have just one more hurdle & then a full set of lovely teeth for the first time in years - my impressions were done whilst I was out for the count so I was lucky - I said pretty please to the surgeon .... xx hope your DH is better

orkneystar - good luck with your teeth - how exciting :T xx

linedancerann - sorry to hear you have been having problems up there - hope it gets better soon xx

shezmit - still not got rid of cold - it seems to go round & round - hope you r fighting fit soon - thanks for info on hospitals - strange about Hinchinbrooke I was told they wanted bits - oh well never mind more for others xx

Well just going to post my updates then get back to the sofa & a poppy
Hugs to all - Jaqui xx

aww hugs re teeth...dont kow what I would do if I lost all mine as have strong gag reflex so cant have a denture...I have a space age one to fill a two tooth gap-metal clips that fit onto tooth either side! I hate it though as made me feel really old! should use it though...
Kntting about to start. Feel relieved re lodger as have a good feeling about it! Been racking wine and making limoncelli at last! Forgot to say that I started doing a sugar syrup and do extra lemons so its more lemony. Isoke had a bath today and it didnt go too badly...shes lovely and soft now! Miol she has masses of toys (and will make her some more) which I rotate but she is still biting, although is getting the message. Next strategy is a plant sprayer but that will be last resort!
Off to knit - at last good tv tonight..come dine with me, garrow ...I do like a man in olde worlde clothes!!
