Pam :A thank you for the fudging advice - you are a star and I can now stop looking sideways in a grumpy fashion at the unfinished sailors hat!
Thanks also for ripple edging advice. Popped on to attic24 earlier and then got sidetracked to the "inspired" section on flickr which has some lovely things on.
There seems to be lots of poorly-sick people about at the moment. Hope you are all (and your loved ones) feeling better soon and that nobody is having too much trouble with the rain - it doesn't seem to stop at the moment.
Not sure what to settle with this evening (for a mammoth bout of watching programmes I shouldn't admit to!) as I have a few things I should be getting on with. I have 2 teddies for Shez all sewn up with scarves but they need faces. I'm trying to talk myself into doing them but worried I will ruin them! Will be brave and try tonight I think. Also did a ruffle scarf from the pattern Mioliere posted and it's a great effect but a little short - pattern said it should be about 41" but mine is somehow quite a bit less! Will definitely be doing another though as I love the finished article, and will make a good pressie.
Re the Xmas card Shelley, same as the others for me. Why not do a festive-glittery-maytaurus-style post on here and save your money for the postage fund? Speaking of the glitter-guru, I am so pleased to hear she is back at home and hopefully will soon be back among us.
Hugs to everyone who needs one.

Shelly please don't send a card put the money towards the postage fund and instead of us sending you a card why not just pop a £1 coin in the post to you and you put that in the fund as well we could be your secret santa.

Anyway chocclare hope you are feeling better - a pirate is better than being called Gummy Bear ........ which is what my kind nephew has called me - hope you are resting xxx hugs from me xxx

Hi everyone. Didn't get much chance on here yesterday - DH's cold hasn't stopped him working on the house, so I spent yesterday afternoon clearing up all the dust - wearing a mask because it makes me cough!

Jacqui - I hope the effects of the anaesthetic have worn off now. I was a dental nurse in a former life so I know the procedure for dentures. The gums take a while to settle down because the bone that the teeth are set in (the alveolar bone, to be technical!) is not like any other bone in the body. It's only there for teeth and, once the teeth are gone, it gets absorbed by the body which takes time, and means that the gums are constantly shrinking back. If they gave you dentures immediately, they would soon become too loose and would need to be replaced. It's horrible that you have to wait but you will get a much better 'fit' in the long run, and they will be easier to 'break in'. Good luck with it all - you'll soon be smiling again!

Shelley - please don't worry about sending Christmas cards. The postage fund is much more important and I'm sure we'll all be saying 'Happy Christmas' on here!

ISOM - I had to provide Louis with toys and he now has his own toy box! It contains balls of rolled up foil (he could play for England now!), a teddy he half-inched from me and 'kills' every day, a hair scrunchie, and a couple of big plastic bottle tops. I've also tied some empty cotton reels so they hang from door handles, and they keep him occupied for ages. I think he would still prefer to be let loose in my wool stash, though!

Well, I managed to do a bit more on a crochet scarf last night - it's a ruffle scarf which I am sort of re-inventing. If I'm happy with it I'll post a photo on Wooligans! I really am trying to make as many Christmas pressies as I can this year. One reason is that there is less choice of things to buy than in the UK plus I'm hoping to keep the cost of postage down (it's horrendously expensive here!) and a knitted scarf shouldn't weigh too much. I'm so glad I already have my stock of Christmas cards - I was looking at them in the shops yesterday and a really basic card that would cost about 99p in the UK had a €3.60 price ticket; as the euro is worth around a pound at the moment, that is way too expensive, especially when you have to add the .73 cents cost of postage!

Well, I hope none of you are suffering in the floods. The situation in Cumbria is really dreadful; I feel so sorry for those whose homes and businesses have been damaged, and it's so sad that that poor policeman lost his life.

Anyway, I'm off for a cuppa so will catch up with you all later.
