I, too, had a problem. They didn't charge me for my 2 books but did charge me for the £14.99 'membership'. I emailed them and pointed out that the site offered 14 day free membership (as opposed to free books) so how could they therefore charge me. The guy at the other end queried the 'offer' so I replied with the appropriate link. After that, he emailed me back and said he was going to credit my card with the £14.99.0

Can someone please confirm if the download can be an mp3 file? My old nokia supports only mp3 and few other uncommon formats only.
Thanks

I'm sure there's a quicker way but . . .
I noticed in their Audible Manager software there was an option to burn the file to CD using Nero - presumably this only came up because I have Nero loaded. I selected the option, and for just the first of three parts of Bill Bryson's History of Nearly Everything, it was asking for 5 CDs, so I figured to copy all three parts was likely to need 15 CDs, bit OTT methought so . . .
I burned the first disc, using a REWRITABLE CD, then I ripped that CD into MP3 files straight onto my Archos MP3 player (later backed up on my hard-drive). I then went back to Nero, selected the second disc to burn and, being a rewritable disc, it deleted the previous files before burning Disc 2, which I duly ripped to MP3 as before, remembering first to create and select a new folder 'Part 1 - Disc 2'.
Rather a long process, but it works and I only needed to use the one CD, which ended up as a usable blank anyway!! I also ended up with uncomplicated MP3 files that should play on any MP3 device, and I can give copies to friends too!
BTW when I went to cancel my subscription I too received the offer to continue for another 3 months at £3.99 a month, which I think is not a bad deal so have accepted, but I'll be cancelling after that. :rotfl:0 -
A great deal!
Justin Lee Collins was fab to listen to - especially on Ipod slow mode
New Dan Brown kept me amused whilst painting DDs bedroom a putrid shade of pink-silly ending, bt not Audibles fault.
£4 received this morning at Quidco.
But will be checking bank account in case cancellation email is not stuck too...Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

When you cancel, you will be given a 3 month half price offer (1 book a month for £4 per month). This is good way to save money if you want to keep the Audible account.0

I signed up for the 'free' offer and they took £3 from my account.
I used a prepay card loaded with £14.99 to prevent them 'forgetting' to cancel my subscription.
I downloaded the books and cancelled, without problem, but am still waiting for the £3 refund.
I will give it another week and email them again.0 -
Oh god, can't believe MSE are promoting these shysters!
They've had this 'free audiobook trial' for ages. Just wait till you try to cancel.
Suddenly you'll find your email has been lost in the post, or they suddenly require three forms of identification, or there's a computer error that results in your credit card being charged for three months after you cancel, or any number of other excuses.
Please, avoid at all costs!
I just cancelled after forgetting to cancel straight away, they are refunding last months £14.99 , shoul credit my cc in the next few days, will report back.0 -
They are DRM-locked, and can't be ... burned to CD (well, not legally, anyway)
Not true. I burn all my audible downloads to CD, so I can listen to them in the car. It's easy to do using iTunes. And it's entirely legal and encouraged by audible, they even give you detailed instructions on how to do it in their help files.
Also once you cancel your subscription, you just don't get any more credits, your account remains and you can redownload the books as many times as you need.0 -
Update on the £3 taken from my card - the money has now been refunded.
So, I have had the free trial, with 2 audio books, at no cost.0 -

My CC has been refunded, the man I spoke to on the phone was helpful, I would be happy to use this company if it was the kind of thing I was interested in.0 -
just finished listening to Dan Brown's new thriller The Lost Symbol, free on the Audible trial. Took a while to download there Download Manager onto my laptop(and my Norton anti-spyware found a tracking cookie inside, tut, tut) but worth it just for the experience. However, Audible seem to be very shy in paying up the £4 cashback) Still worth it though.
At the end of the free trial I had no problems cancelling my sub online...besides a few 'Why' questions.0
