Welcome to the GC :hello: you'll find loads of help and information here.
I've bookmarked the Old Style index in my Favourites so its easy to keep an eye on any new topics coming up - unread threads show in bold type. The current grocery challenge is always a 'sticky', to be found at the top of the index.
TheBees, I was confused by your directions but I realised there's nothing wrong with my eyesight, you're probably using Internet Explorer - I'm on Firefox :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: panic over!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I am a complete forum newby but have been reading the old style threads for a while now and find it really interestingI'd love to join the grocery challenge...am I a bit late for October? Maybe I should start next month? I aim to spend no more than £200 pm on food for me and OH but I know I could get this down as there's only 2 of us.

Must do this quickly as I'm knackered!!
Tesco shop today on top of the milk bought from the corner shop (£1.30)
I seemed to get there as the whoopsies were coming out - I got books with colouring pens for nephews Christmas for 50p eachThat comes from a different budget though so for the Grocery Challenge I spent.....£35.54 which in part is made up of the following whoopsies....
Doughballs 40p (£1.59)
Chicken thighs/drumsticks 87p (£3.49)
Organic burgers 75p for four (£3)
Wraps 32p (£1.28 - only one went through reduced though, the other full price, grrr)
Chicken breast - organic - 98p (£3.93)
Ribeye pork joint £1.26 (£5.04)
Sausages x 12 (Richmond thick ones too!) 71p (£2.86)
Chicken breast 85p (£3.41)
Not bad on the meat side anyway! I also spent £22 on assorted cat food  I think it would be cheaper to feed them on whoopsied chicken at this rate!!
Bed for me.
Night all

helen - thanks for the welcome
no I've not set a budget, I am way into the month so not bothering for this month. Will see what we come in at and maybe use that as a baseline for next months budget. Can I let you know for nesxt time? I've done grocery challenges in the past just need to refocus a bit (a lot)
Storecupboard challenge update:
12 Oct kids had some jacket potatoes but we still have 5 left (had more than we thought) and we had prawn stir fry
13 Oct pasta bologniase and garlic bread (going to make double bolgonaise mix and make a shep pie for another night too.
Still have left:
16 sausages - 2 family meals - sausage and mash, sausage caserole
30 fishfingers and 12 waffles - 4 kids meals. We can have stir fry those nights
5 jacket potatoes - 1 family meal with beans, cheese, sweetcorn and maybe burger for DH
2 tins sausage and beans - 2 kids meals with mash or toast, we can have chickpe and lentil curry.
10 quorn fillets - massive roast dinner next weekend so we feel like we are treating ourselves!
Also have some cocunut milk and red thai curry paste so could do a curry with leftover veg some night.
Lunches - kids have packed lnches at school. DD2 has breadsticks and cheese/fruit, beans on toast, egg on toast, I have pasta salad or couscous etc.
Have to do a mystery shop tomorrow at a food shop with a minimum spend of £10 so will buy bananas, milk, onions (am all out) , peppers, bread and spuds. Maybe apple juice if not quite at a tenner.Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

Welcome PrincessMort. We were spending about £200 a month for 2 of us as well and you will see from my signature I have been able to reduce that a bit in the few months I have been doing the challenge. My totals include all food & cleaning materials, loo rolls, toiletries etc but not alcoholI must say it has also cut down on wastage and I hardly waste any food now.
Loads of great tips and ideas on here so good luck
Edited to add: the months with the lower budgets (June, September & October) are when we were on holiday0 -
Thankyou all for the welcome :j
I have added the page to my favourites (thanks for the tip). Please can you put me down for £180 this month...so far I have spent £38.66 - not a lot I know but I have been using up all the random stuff in my cupboards so they are very bare now and I will have to do a big stock-up shop soon. Had a really bad cold for the past week so really couldn't be bothered to shop - its a good 'de-motivator' but I wouldn't advise it, its a nasty one:rotfl:
Last night's dinner was 'bare cupboard stew'...all the bits and pieces I had left thrown together in a pan, including veg, baked beans, tinned tomatoes, frozen sweetcorn and chopped up hotdogs - came out surprisingly well!Sept GC lost track/£160
Oct GC /£1600 -
Am having another NSD today, and making soup, lentil pate, and maybe a veggie curry:p:p"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"
