Went to Sbury's yesterday for a true top-up shop (in past few weeks it has been picking up stupid store cupboard things have run out of, but better planning has put these in the A$DA monthly shop as they are cheaper there) of eggs & fruit and the cat food which is on sale at the mo. Can't remember exact amount to update sig with, but was really chuffed especially as DH likes to not tell me 'til we're in the store that he needs things like shaving gel and coffee for work (the one expense I can't get him off of!!). But Sbury's still has apples on sale and 6x free range eggs for £1!!

(we eat loads of fruit in our packed lunches, so that does eat up a lot of the budget TBH, even though I try and buy the cheapest options possible...man, I miss our local fruit stall!!)

  • good morning everyone,

has taken me two days to catch up on reading all the posts.

Jayne(CRANKY40) I am so sorry and saying a prayer for you all.

RACHELMK Congratulations and wish you both health and happiness in the future.

Well I have spent quite a bit of my budget already. Spent £60 in Lidl at the weekend. I am having people in tonight and I am providing a kind of mini buffet. (stretch or starve) Also having close family and friends tomorrow, but they are great and will eat up all the leftovers quite happily.

Just had a look at what I have bought and what I have already in and I'm sure I could cater for an army if they happened to march through. Can't believe the amount of food that there is. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Well don't think I will need much for the rest of the month apart from milk, bread, eggs and perhaps a few pieces of fruit and veg although I have lots of veg in the freezer.

    Good luck to everyone

    Just a short one

Congratulations on your nuptuals Rachelmk. It was my WA last week - 26 years so far and looking forward to the next 26.

Managed a complete NSD yesterday, and today should be a GC NSD. I'm off to my first session with a physio this afternoon to try and get my back-pain under control. She thinks I am quite brave having seen what she does to my rugby-playing DS2!

Oops have just had to fling all my windows and doors open, as I have nearly managed to gas myself this morning!!!

In making stock I hadn't noticed that the gas ring was no longer lit...but still sending out gas!! I am recovering from a bit of a cold and have no sense of smell (couldn't smell bleach on Saturday), so didn't notice. So I have been out sitting in the sun (still a bit chilly) to get some fresh air, now back inside and breathing better!! I thought it was just my cold making me feel fuzzy! :D

It really is a glorious day today, very autumnal.
    Have a great day everyone.

:hello: to JillD and welcome - happy to have you on board, but, have I missed your post where you have set your budget for the month or are you going to do it for next month [I'm easily confused as you can see!!] Check out the recipes on page 1 posted by the wonderful Rosieben if you need inspiration and ask any questions you may have, we are all here to help and cajole as needed or wanted and so the waffling stops.

DH has just bought bread and milk so off to update siggy so see you later

I just traded via my local LETS group and got about 5kg potatoes and a bag of oranges without parting with any cash! Brilliant! There was also curry and spag bol available but I have loads of that in stock, so that means that I SHOULD only need to buy milk for the rest of the month. :) I can really recommend joining your local group if you have one, I'm amazed at what gets traded by way of foodstuffs! :) (I trade eggs, lemon curd, soup and quiche mostly, can you tell I have hens? :D)
I reserve the right not to spend.

  • Hello :j

I am a complete forum newby but have been reading the old style threads for a while now and find it really interesting :o I'd love to join the grocery challenge...am I a bit late for October? Maybe I should start next month? I aim to spend no more than £200 pm on food for me and OH but I know I could get this down as there's only 2 of us.

Could someone tell me if there is an easy way to get to this thread? I've been going to the search box and typing in 'grocery challenge' or 'old style' but think I may be missing something!

Thanks in advance for your help

Had my car in the garage today for its MOT (it passed with flying colours :D i'm glad I spent about 4 hours cleaning it yesterday now :p)

The garage is near Asda so I popped in to look at the clothes as saw there was a sale on. Tried a top on, but far too big so gave up on that and had a look round. Picked up some pillow cases which should have been £2, but was charged £2.50, didn't notice until I got home...nevermind. Also got some tealight candles.

Grocery-wise I got a pot of cheap honey (can't stand it 'raw' but use it for cooking), some pork steaks (3, used half of one for a stir fry tonight and froze the rest) and a big tub of spread (not really needed now, but I like that brand and will use it). So that's another £3.87 on my total (not counting pillow cases/tealights).

I must track down my receipts and update my list I started to keep track of everything.

Princess Mort - Welcome to the forum. Everyone is really friendly with lots of ideas to help one another cut our food bills. I found it hard to find the forum but now you've found us you could click on the Favourites star near the top left of your screen so you can come back easily.

Tonight's tea was leftover spaghetti bolognese with pasta twirls and grated cheese on top. Not very exciting but quick and easy on an evening when everyone was eating at different times.:rotfl:

NSD today (apart from the postage on a parcel I sent for an ebay sell so I'm not counting that.)

    Have a good week.
