  • Nipped into Mr T on the way home from work. Got 2 whoopsied pizzas from£3.69 to 48p each (in the freezer for DS birthday movie night), Milk for 72p per carton (Wisemans the one) and a few other essentials, as big shop won't happen til Friday. Spent £11.46. Flour deal has finished, but a few offers on frozen Quorn stuff in case anyone's interested. Also had spend at Co-op the other day of £3.12 and eggs today by OH at £2.70 for a dozen (but they were happy ones) so I'm at £17.28

Hi can I join in please?

I've been away from the site (and slipping back into old habits) for far too long and this challenge is just what I need

My budget for October is going to be £450

I know that seems a lot (and it is!) but we are a family of 7 and have 3 giant dogs:rotfl:

I really need to stick to this and hopefully it will motivate me to make bigger changes

Ps thank you all for such a great thread

    Hi everyone,

    Hi helenjelly,

Please can you put me down for 400.00 dollars for October.

I'm trying a new tact this month, so I'm going to do it 1st -31st October allowing me $12.90 per day, and that doesn't sound the least bit scary, lol.

    Have a good one everybody.
  • First day of October and I already need to put myself down for a £50.44 spend - yikes! We went to visit Mr T last night and they had some really good deals on meat, so we bought quite a bit to freeze. On the up side, some careful meal planning (which I'm just off to do now), should mean we only have to top-up on the milk / bread / veg type stuff.
Maybe I'll just have a quick browse through this thread before I do the meal planning - I could do with catching up over a cuppa!

  • Can you put me down for £200 please Mrs M.

I did my first shop last night and with lots of YS I bought £48 worth of food for just £11! We scoffed the Giant Scallops (£4 reduced to £1) with garlic butter last night and the rest has filled the gaps in my freezer nicely.:j

Most of it I admit is ready meals (E.g Tescos finest Chicken Chasseur £4.59 reduced to £1.15) but next week will be my first week back in work full time, so I will enjoy taking advantage as I won't be home until 9.30pm. :p Not very OS but practical!

Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before

The large blocks of Cheddar Cheese were also good value. Got a strong for my house and medium for DD's - and they lasted us several months.

Stupid question time can you freeze cheese (presuming this is what you have done if you bought it earlier in the year and lasted several months)

Also is Costco any cheaper than Macro as we have a Macro card and I think there is a Costco at Lincoln so both a 30 mile trip one way for me

Yes, cheese freezes just fine. But one frozen and defrosted it tends to crumble rather than slice - the stronger the cheese, the more it crumbles :rolleyes2 As I mainly grate before using, this suits me just fine :)

Haven't visited Macro since (ummmmmmm) 2000, so can't compare the prices between them - especially as I didn't get to a Costco until late 2006.

So if I grate it first before freezing it (or rather hubby can) then it saves time doing it when I need to use it as well. Brilliant
