Can I keep to £100 for October please?

Keeping it at this as if we go out for dinner this month, it is my turn to pay :):o

  • Hi I've been watching the thread last month and would like to join in.

Can you put me down for £300 for October please?

I have been drawing up shopping lists ready for the weekend. Though my work I can get a Costco card - for those who use them, it is worth it? The nearest one is around 20 miles away, so it has to be a reasonable saving to balance out the petrol.

After a triumph using up some old mushrooms in a mushroom and barley soup, I'm looking forward to making every penny count!

  • Hi everyone

Pinkpower - we can't do without Costco's now, but, you have to know the prices of things in the supermarkets cos sometimes the supermarkets are cheaper, we use it for things like bacon, loo roll, cheese, coke and other bits when on offer - we reckon that the cost of the card has been balanced by the savings in about 3 months.

Budgets done up to and including Pinkpower

    Thanks everyone

Small spend today in the chemist, including some berry flavour children’s mouthwash for DD, as she doesn’t like mint & this is fairly expensive. Allegedly it was 1/3 off but still more than I had been paying in MrT, but it seems to have discontinued that one. Will have to check out some of the discount chemist type places to see if I can find a source for this at a better price in future.

I have still spent less than half the budget & am well stocked up. Tomorrow will be the proper top-up shop for week 2. I have in the budget £25 per week for three top-up shops, but my list on mysupermarket for what I actually need is currently £3.50!

Really depends on what you want/need/have space for.

I don't have a card of my own, but have been taken a few times by friends (the last time way back in January). I bought a tray of Baked Beans (Br@nston) that worked out about the same cost as Mr T value range, and a tray of Chopped Tinned Toms (not a brand I know) which were ditto on the price. I'm still working my way through both of these (only 2 of us on a regular basis, and don't use either as a 'side dish' - they get cooked into meals).

I also got a couple of bags of their frozen Chicken Breast Fillets, which my DD took a few of back to her place. Didn't work out cheaper 'per kg' than I could get elsewhere, but they've no added water so actually go a lot further (no shrinkage in cooking). Still have a few of these left, but will have to try twisting the arm of a friend to take me back early next year for some more ;)

The large blocks of Cheddar Cheese were also good value. Got a strong for my house and medium for DD's - and they lasted us several months.

The Longlife Pure Orange was also good value (compared to Mr T value), and I got a large bottle of Orange Cordial for when my GDs are here..... Both were big names, and I'm still working my way through both of those too :rolleyes2:

I'm told their washing powder is a great deal, but if not using Soapnuts I use an environmentally friendly powder - so haven't tried the Costco one myself.

I've also had crafting (scrapbooking) items from there when they've had them in, and photo paper, and several books (mostly for Christmas presents for my GDs).

I've been to Morrisons today, mainly to stock up on fruit and veg as I've decided they are the best supermarket round here for fruit, it actually seems to go through a ripe phase! Got loads of it from the reduced section so was pleased with that. Also picked up a few things that we needed fairly urgently then will do an online shop to properly stock up later on in the week. My spend so far is £34.64.

Been trying to get my DH to see if he can get a Costco card through work, we have some friends that seem to get everything from there so wouldn't mind a visit sometime.

NSD for me today, haven't bought anything foodwise since Monday, usually would have forgotten something in my big shop, but was mega organised with my list!
Does anyone keep records of their shopping lists and create the next weeks by crossing things off or adding to them? Like a basic every week list, laminated? (oo er, getting excited now!)
Sept. grocery challenge = £500 (221.60 so far!;))
  • Morrisons have 4 pack of branston beans for 79p. A very good bargain if you like your beans!

Tomorrow I am doing a full pantry/fridge/freezer inventory & doing a menu plan.

I struggle though cos I am doing Slimming World (I;ve lost 19.5lbs! since 15th June) & don't eat meat. I started eating fish again when pg for DS2.
DH is often away as his job takes him abroad.
DD is pretty ok with food.
DS1 is a complete & utter nightmare with food.
    DS2 is only just weaning

Some evenings I cook 4 seperate meals  Mad, I know....
