  • Its suprising how many people I see with just a few inches of snow cleared from their windscreen driving almost blindly, does the Yaris have a heated windsreen I wonder ????
I did have a Yaris loan car recently & thought it was brilliant (apart from the notchy gear shift) the digital dash & mpg display was impressive, it was only a 1 litre car but I easily got a reading of 65 mpg.
Theres only two rules to remember
    1) Im always right
    2) See rule 1
  • I've not quite got my head round this Stop/Start technology... On the one hand, having the engine off when you're not moving is good, as there is no pollution from your car. Which is good for the environment. However, surely starting the engine uses more fuel than it would if it was just left running. Also, what sort of hammering is the battery taking all the time? Specially if the lights are left on...?

and you know just how awkward some starter motors are to get at on modern cars. and most are sealed units that cant be repaired so it looks like the life of them will be reduced and the price to replace going up.

The Starter motor is not the same as a "normal" one, its Pre-Engaged, also the Battery is a much higher capacity. You get 3 yrs warranty, but i should imagine its a few bob to replace after that. It probably be compulsory soon for all new cars to be like this.

Well I wouldn't buy a car with that feature, fuel saving or not, it would drive me up the wall.

    didnt realise that.

now when you buy a 1.0 yaris you get a battery the same size as the engine!

  • I believe with the yaris you get two batteries, one for the starter and one for auxilery things when the engines not running.

I read somewhere last week that EU regs state that all cars will feature stop start soon.

probably but i doubt any police officer in thier right mind would try and give you a ticket for it.

They do quite regularly. People jump out to use an ATM for example.

also leaving the keys in the car when you're not present invalidates your insurance.

Thieves love Winter as they literally wait for those to go out and warm the car up then go back in and finish that slice of toast, then just jump in and drive away.

Also having the engine running when one is not in it - say whilst you scrape of the ice is a road traffic offense is it not?

its went from scraping the ice from the windows to using an ATM. i know they do hand out penalties for some engine idling.
but starting your car when its -5 degrees and a thick sheet of ice on your window shouldnt get you a ticket.
