  • I don't think you need to warm this engine up.
It is supposed to switch off when you put it in neutral unless it thinks the car would need the engine on (e.g. A/C on etc.) in which case the engine will keep running.

If you do want to override the Stop/Start then look for a button labelled something like "Eco" around the handbrake area. Pressing it will turn off the Stop/Start feature for that session only.

  • I believe the engines will not run the start stop function until the engine is sufficiently warmed up- so it doesn't work until say 10mins into the journey. Sure that is the case in the Toyota Auris.
  • Warming the engine up ????
That went out with the horse and cart !!!
The quickest way to warm an engine up is to get in it and drive it.
Leaving an engine ticking over is not only an awful waste of fuel it's also not very environmentally friendly at all.

  • im sorry but regardless of what any of you say, when its in the minus' im letting my engine tick over for a bit before i put any load on it.
im not saying im waiting until the temp gauge gets to normal just a few minutes to get a bit of heat around it.

Just sitting with the engine ticking over will prematurely wear the engine more than driving straight off.
Sure keep the revs low with no harsh acceleration for the first few miles.

Also having the engine running when one is not in it - say whilst you scrape of the ice is a road traffic offense is it not?

Not if it's on your own drive or private land.

How does anybody drive off safely in a car that is iced over?
