Nissan 8 Year Scrappage vs Hyundai i10

Options
Thanks in advance for anyone taking the time to read this.

I'm really just looking for some advice; I currently have a 2000 'x' reg renault clio with 150,000 miles on the clock, but I am interested in getting a new car. Unfortunately for me my car falls just out of the scrappage scheme so obviously the Nissan scheme looks attractive as they are doing it from 8 years instead.

I'm interested in the 1.2 Micra, most likely the n-tec or the acenta. However the dealer has informed me that there would be no room for negotiation after the scrappage £2000 on the price. Alternatively I'm looking at the Hyundai i10 comfort, a fair bit cheaper in price however they will only offer me £350 for my clio.

My questions really are, if I was to go with Nissan would you expet them to offer anything more on the price if I push for it, even metallic paint and floor mats thrown in or something? Or because the £2000 is completely funded by them I shouldn't expect a penny?

Secondly, an opinion on the 2 cars Im looking at. The Hyundai comes with a 5 year guarantee rather than a 3 and has a few extras as standard. However the Nissan feels a bit more roomy and on the n-tec has a very nice built-in 'connect' system with bluetooth/gps etc. which the hyundai doesn't even offer as a optional.

And Finally, if I was to go for the hyundai what sort of discount should I be expecting to push for? and how much should I be expecting for my part exchange?

Many Thanks Again,
Simon

you dont say if the clio is diesel or petrol !
if diesel try a private ad you may get £500 depends on its history and tax/test etc

you may get some decent mats or something outta nissan but they wont be making much profit after the 2k is taken off..

  • Having seen both - I would go for the Nissan! It is worth trying another dealership to see if they can better the deal - it is always a good idea to try and play one against the other.

Nissan without a doubt...similar situation to me...I had a Scenic (yr 2000) high-ish mileage...broken seat mount, oil leaks, shocks knackered, gearbox and clutch making really funny noises....sell on gumtree...perhaps get £400 or £500...but a week later I know the buyer would be knocking on my door saying the Renault has died....

other option....went to Nissan....got £2000 scrappage...after a week (it had to come from Sunderland)...now driving round in a brand new Nissan Note...Acenta model....alloys, bluetooth, cd player, aircon and loads more features....didn't realise how much cars have come on in the last 10 yrs....

    Many Thanks for your replies,

Torby, what was it that made you go for the Nissan in the end? Im very torn between the two, obviously the lead time on the nissan is very appealing; Hyundai quoted January as the estimated date.

Given I'd be buying the Hyundia without any scrappage discount what do you think I would be able to negotiate out of them? I'd hope for paint and mats, but I was more meaning in terms of the basic price? Would they be able to 'do me a deal' in loose terms if I was looking to buy there and then.

Edit: It is a Petrol 1.2

    Thanks Again

  • As a side point: If I was to go with the Hyundai could someone reccommend a double din cd stereo with gps/traffic and mp3/ipod connection; and whats the possibility of adding steering wheel audio controls. Thanks.

Nissan would get my vote too. I've never owned either but I've driven just about every manufacturer in the last 30 years (used to work at car auctions), and Japanese cars get my vote over Korean cars any day regardless of where they are made.

  • The Hyundai every time, the Micra is now an old car and it isn't as reliable as the older ones were. The i10 has a long waiting list for a reason and its highly regarded.

more to do with its price tag and apparent scrappage discounts i think. they seem poorly spec'd,cheap tin cans.

Not sure where you get that from GS, they are very well spec'd for the money.

    All have Air-Con as standard.

there was someone on her looking for gps and bluetooth as an option and it wasnt even an added extra. most other manufacturers offer these. air con has been around for decades so hardly cutting edge.
