I suppose i had better explain about the bike- basically we were financially stable at the time and we decided that to try and save money my husband would learn to ride a motorcycle so we could save money on petrol, etc... this backfired as he was transferred to where we live now and I haven't been able to find a full time job.

The bike we bought hoping to get it lowered but unfortunately we can't afford to do this at the present moment hence having a bike I can't ride at the moment.

The difficulty with selling is what we could get for the bike would be less that what we would owe the finance company and we don't have any spare momney tobe able to do this.

around £20K of those debts were university (both my husband went to uni and then I did) as I was doing a law degree but when my husband got tranferred down here and I couldn't manage to get a job I couldn't afford to continue hence only having 4 A-Levels.... Law degrees are extremely expensive degrees :(

I am really trying to listen to your points- my husband has three jobs as his parents have a small cleaning business with 4 clients- so his parents do two of the clientsand he does two himself as he can walk to the clients from hsi full time job..

This seems to be happening a lot lately where someone asks for advice and they get bullied and frightened off. There was Heavy Heart, the lad who was bullied at school and I myself came in for some flak. This poor girl is only 21. She has only been able to earn money for a few years. I expect she was bombarded with junk mail inviting her to take out credit cards. She must have been at school until she was 18 as she has four A Levels. That gives her only 3 years of ability to do full time work and how she has built up this debt God only knows but surely we must feel sorry for someone of that age and inexperience who has this amount of debt as a milestone around their neck. It is no good to insult them and call them lazy. It does no good. The poor girl is trying to sort it out; she doesnt know whether she's coming or going. Maybe she should sell the bike but that is something she doesnt want discussed. I know it seems frustrating that she doesnt take all these suggestions but I think we should remain sympathetic.

no problem- Ithought I had better also add that I did have a full time job (the one travelling 110 miles a day for) but unfortunately the company failed so I could no longer work for them.

Is there no way that you could continue with your law course because ultimately that would make you much better off.

if you started on a law degree why don't you send your CV to some solicitors - there are bound to be some somewhere neard you - and ask them to keep you in mind for even a legal secretary position - even temporary, part time whatever.

Where in the country are you?

What job do you do now?

Is there any chance you could get more hours at this job?

if I were you I would pay out the money to get the bike lowered at least this will allow you to look further afield for work, its eating up money sitting there doing nothing - you may as well use it.

Welcome to MSE InHell, I have just read through your thread and really feel for you. It sounds as though your self esteem is quite low at the moment and to say you only have 4 A levels, as though it is nothing. You should be so proud of what you have achieved in your life so far, try not to be too downhearted. I know £46k of debt is a lot, but many have a lot more debt than that. Try to concentrate on all the great things you have such as your husband, pets, nice home, good education. Then slowly rebuild some areas of your life with the great advice that has been offered already. Just take one day at a time.

Please stay on this site, it takes a while to change your ways and get out of debt, but you will get there I am sure.

could you break down your debts for us cos I don't think you've done that yet - other than to ay £46k of unsecured.

Break it into lender, balance, minimum monthly required and APR.

how much is your house worth?
