I think your last post InHell, sums up how I have interpreted your previous posts.. You seem well qualified, and appear to have given a lot up in order to move to Wales. A combination of debt, the move, lack of career opportunities would be enough to make anyone of us feel low. You need to find the confidence back to face these debts and your lack of opportunities whilst living in Wales. Forgive me for being straight, but apart from going bankrupt, your only options seem to be to move closer to where the job opportunities are. Suitable employment seems to be your answer, not only generating income, but for your own self esteem. You may have to increase the debt in order to do this - but if you are serious about things ...hey!!
As for your OH - my opinion is that you show him this thread, and tackle the debt together head on. If it means a joint move out - it could be the move that saves you. You will not clear debts that high, with 1 or 2 cleaning/low paid jobs, you are living on the edge now - you deserve better.

In Hell , one thing worth remembering when it comes to jobs students snap up, both the jobs I have here in newcastle employ students BUT we still have the same number of shifts to cover when students are away over the summer, don't want to work as much cause they have exams etc. So some employers may perfer to have a non student as they'll be there all year round.
    Just a thought.
Anyway good luck I hope things work out for you.

    Hang on

You moved here recently, your husband's job was relocated and you decided to buy straight away without working out whether or not you could afford to live there.

I am also more than bemused by how you managed your money so well before buy are now just a bit later £46K in unsecured debt and had such impaired credit/.low income that you only had the choice of one lender and one rate. Alarm bells need to be ringing when a career move for husband takes you 200miles from where you were, forces a halving of income and leaves you with a mortgage. That's all a bit odd.

As others have said, it's also peculiar that you continually resist identifying what the debts are - people can and will help you but you have to play with a straight bat and be open. People can't offer solutions till you tell them how much you owe and to whom and with respect, I don't blame people for not buying the "I don't have the paperwork" line. This is the millstone round your neck, your ten ton anchor, the albatross dragging you under and you don't know, sorry, don't believe that or if it's true, then you are in even more trouble than others think. You seem to suggest that's it's unavoidable spending - if it is, post it up and feel justified, if it's not (in other people's eyes), take the flak and the advice together.

It's also fairly astounding that there are no factory jobs, no farm work, no cleaning jobs, no basic jobs that somehow other people are able to get even though all those A Level students are revising for exams. Again, with respect, I am not convinced you are looking as hard as possible for a job, I think you are looking for the right job.

We'll ignore such obvious folly as buying and insuring (I hope) motorbikes you can't ride and that sort of stuff. Overall, it seems that on your current income you can afford to live month to month, it's the debt service you can't meet. However, you are including pet insurance payments (!!!!!!), silly energy prices (my gas bill for a large 4 bed house is not £40 a month) and some pretty odd stuff in what you have identified and you won't identify your household spend. If you manage to post the numbers (or approximations), you will probably find less negativity.

Debts have three main ways to be fixed, earn more, pay out less in interest or get them written off/in part or in whole. Be honest, which one are you looking for advice on ? What's wrong with the other two ?

but please dont go off topic here - we are after all trying to help someone and can I just refer you to what it says underneath the debt free wanabee forum ie
"A place of mutual support for those struggling to get out of debt plus help from other debt nerds"

mutual support - in other words if you're not going to give it then go away.

    Hi again Inhell.
Hope you're feeling abit more confident since you posted.

How much do you pay for the pet food? I know you said you got frozen rodents (yuk) but would it work out cheaper to getting your cat/cats onto Iams dry food? Tesco usually do BOGOF offers, of a third extra free.
I've got 8 cats and I feed them this and it saves alot as there is no waste compared to wet food.
Also you mentioned you buy cat litter so I am wondering if they are house cats? If so why the need for insurance?
The chances of you needing to use pet insurance is negligeable if they are house cats, far better to put a pound a week in a jar and call that the vet fund. If you have a garden hem it off, then they can still go out and again the need for a vet is lessened. I had 11 cats for many years and have never had pet insurance, I see them as a rip off. many pets never need a vet in their life.
Also do you yourself get any benefits at all? If so you can apply for pet aid or the pdsa will treat 3 pets. Do you have a friend on any benefits? It's a bit of a cheat I know but in an emergency they could say the pet was theirs and get it treated for you. (I know it's a charity but sometimes needs must and the pets health is all important to me, besides they are getting everything in my will!). You could also get free food if you live in an area where you get a lot of roadkill, as there is where I live but I just couldn't handle it but you might be able to.
Also mix your dog food with cheap rice and pasta to spread it out.

    Hope some of this helps.

I'd also suggest going onto an electricity meter (do you have gas or just electric as your electric bill is out of this world)
It might cost a bit more but you do save as you then learn to only use sparingly. I had an electricity meter in a one bed flat, with electric fire (no gas) and I spent 20 pound a week average winter, and 10 pound throughout the summer.

If you're home on days alone don't put the fire on,Have a rule of no heating till 9 o clock a night. Insulate your windows etc and try and make the place more cosy that way.

Don't buy cleaning products at all. I've stopped buying them, a bit washy up liquid and elbow grease is all you need.

If you can cut down on all the general things then whatevers left use to pay off a debt.
I'd also say again about ebay - pick one debt then whatever you make on ebay goes into that debt - can you make things to sell? Do you have clothes you could sell?

    Good luck :)

loook, I am sorry but the Citizens Advice requested all the paperwork for out debts- I don't have the use of a printer at home or a photocopier so I had to just give them the whole file.

From what I can recall we have two loans (both for houses which needed a lot of work and my uni fees) of around £10 and 15K.

we then have credit cards which we acrued as when we first moved to Newcastle before my uni degree started (which was a part time law degree, by the way so I wasn't classed as a proper student) the jobseekers allowance was paid incorrectly (or not at all) for the duration we were on it (around 4 months) so we put rent, etc on the credit card.

I admit that when I first got a credit card I did spend more than I should on it without thinking of the consequences.

Then before we got pet insurance one of our cats needed vet treatment which we didn't have any savings for as we had only had him a month so obviouslythat had to be stuck onto the credit card (we were off Jobseekers by this time so were not entitled to any help from the PDSA)

when we bought the second house the house needed a lot more work than we thought so again out came the credit cards

I just want to tell people of my situation as I just need someone to tell as the CAB aren't helpful in the slightest- our advisor keeps saying do an IVA, do an IVA- BUT for ONE we CAN'T afford an IVA for TWO its too risky given our situation and basically we got into this mess I WANT to be able to pay it off in FULL, even if it does mean I am working 10/15 years past retirement age- I am not looking for advice, just I don't really have any friends down here as we live in such a remote area- my friends were all back in Nothern England so all I have down here are my parents who don't understand. I just wanted someone to tell. I feel so stupid :(
