I went into Debenhams at the Trafford Centre on Saturday, to buy a strapless bra for a wedding as I didn't have one in 34b......took 34b & 34c into fitting room, assistant looked at me, said you aren't a 34, gave me a 32dd......fiance thinks it's Christmas & his birthday all at once!

Only drawback now is that I have a drawer full of wrong-size bras, and only 1 so far that is right!

As I am planning to lose a bit of weight, is it worth hanging onto the 34b's?

I'd say that if you're a 32 at present, you may lose more round your back and end up a 30.

Your cup size may go down (a lot of people do lose weight from their bust when dieting) but I can't see you going up to a 34.

If you hang onto them, I think you'll just end up wearing the wrong size bra again.

I used to be a 38F and lost quite a bit of weight and now am 34E/F or even a 36E depending on make.
So my 34E is the same cup size as a 38D.

According to the figleaves website you do still need to add on the inches to get your band size.
After I had DD I went to get some new bras. I had measured myself and worked out that I was a 32DD but got collared by the woman when I went into M&S. I said I'd measured myself and what size I thought I was. She snorted and said that I was at least a 36. Then she measured me and lo and behold I was a ........ 32DD. She wasn't very happy about that I have to say! Then she wouldn't leave the changing room when I was trying to get dressed. She was telling me how to put a bra on- I do know how to dress myself thanks!
Then as I'm there with my puppies hanging out trying to keep myself covered up and look after the baby and get dressed she said
    "I know you don't I, you're ***'s Daughter in law"
There's a time and a place really isn't there and when you're standing there in all your glory is not the time nor the place. It's like going for a smear or something and the nurse looking at your bits and saying "I remember you now"
"Why what's wrong with me down there!!!!!"

Anyone else unable to get onto the bravissimo website at the moment?

I've never got my boobs out when getting measured, they always leave the room when trying the bras on, then come back in and make sure straps are tight enough etc. I'd tell them to leave if they were standing there staring at me! :o Even when i've had my baby with me, theyve been polite enough to give me some privacy.

I think any charity on the high street would accept bras if they're in decent condition.
I've seen loads for sale in Age Concern, Arthritis Research etc.

Good luck with the diet. ;)
  • The figleaves calculator is pretty useless to be honest - tells me I'm something like a 36d!

Bravissimo don't measure, they will just estimate by looking and get you to try a size on and go from there. Basically go for the tightest back size you can get away with, for instance if you are a size 12-14 generally speaking then a 34 back would be a good place to start. Then the cup size would be in relation to your actual boobage, fitting smoothly across the chest with no bulging flesh!

I'm another example of someone who was always sold a 36d/38c from Debenhams and M&S, but walked out of Bravissimo a 34E and looking much slimmer and perkier!

Being measured in a bra can give inaccurate results, as can being measured without. The old advice used to be to measure in a well fitting soft unpadded bra, or nothing.

Trouble is if you try and measure naked and have saggy boobs your cup size will come out too small. If you try to measure in a bra it can make the measurement too big if it is padded or too small if it is squashing them.

Best way is trial and error and ditch the measuring tapes!

Trouble is that cup size is volume, and you can't measure volume with a tape measure.

Think about a parcel that is 20 cubic centimeters, then tell me how long it is. You can't it could be a long thin parcel or a short fat one or an irregularly shaped one, and boobs are just the same!

The only way to measure the volume of your breasts (unless you have fancy technology and I believe that there are body scanners out there just not in bra shops) is to use a bowl of water and measure how much is displaced when you submerge your breast! Only trouble is that you can't buy a bra sized in millilitres!!! It would be better though....... rucksacks are measured in litres......
