the problem there babymoo is that women arent all made from the same plan! your measurements can be the same as your neighbours but you could be different shape. that is why an experienced bra fitter can look at you and then give you the right size bra in the right shape. i cant afford these bras - wish i could - so i just look in stores for the bra i like then take a range of sizes into fitting room. I know that anything between 32 and 36 fits me. usually if i want a balcony type bra it has to have smaller cup size - but if its one of the crossover front (tshirt bra) will need a larger cup size. does this make sense?
I have had bras from peacocks which fitted nicely and george (which went out of shape quickly) also from a local retail outlet and in their range (all same make - i got three bras in three different sizes - which the girl on till questioned til i told her i had tried them on). but! I hate bras and only wear them when i HAVE to! I think the message here is - TRY THEM ON! do up the slackest hook and if it fits - ie doesnt give you spare boobs, is comfortable and looks good under a tshirt (another tip - take a tshirt with you when trying them on) its right bra for you.

Just a question - what stores do respectable bra measuring then? (london). I've never been measured at 22, but i'm currently settled with a few 36DD bras from M+S, fantastically comfy, but getting to the end of thier life. I thought I would go to M+S, but as several have said, its not the best of reps. Thanks :)

  • As you're already more than a d, then if you can get to one Bravissimo, if not John Lewis and Debenhams around here both fit rather than measure and tend to be pretty good.
  • I was wearing a 32D, which i knew was too small, went to bravissimo and came out a 30FF/G. However, went to M&S the next week who said i was a 34DD?
Thank you to all posters :A
  • See previous comments re M&S lol, they are generally dreadful. I'd be inclined to trust the bravissimo fitting - if you were previously wearing a 32, fitted in a 30, there is no way you're really a 34. someone who is a proper 34 probably wouldn't get a 30 on!

How do they measure you? Do you keep your bra on, or how? Rather an idiot to this, looking at going Bravissimo on tuesday now :)

You keep your bra on. Bravissimo ask you what size you're already wearing, then look at how it fits to see what you need. They'll bring you some bras in the suggested size, and see how they fit. You can ask them to wait outside while you get changed if you prefer.

Debenhams for me (not big enough for bravissimo!!) :) need to get fitted again soon though as i've recently lost some weight.

  • Lots of recommendations for Bravissimo but AFAIK they cater for ladies with the sort of figure I used to dream of having.
Any suggestions for best place to get fitted if you are round about 34C.

Bravissimo start from a D cup, that is not as big as most people think.

If you are a 34C it is well worth trying them as most people wear a back size too big, if you went down a back size you would probably need a D cup.

I know someone who thought they were a 36B and came out of a bra fitting in a 32E (not at bravissimo at a local independant).

Try getting some local recommendations, I think M&S, Debenhams, JL etc vary quite considerably between branches and individual fitters. Bravissimo are one of the few that make a real point of the way their fitters are trained to fit.

Or if you are in London Rigby and Peller do fitting but be prepared to spend rathe rmore than average on a bra!

Bravissimo have bras from about £20 but you can always try lots on making a note of brand/style size (because you won't be the same size in a Ballet or Gossard bra as you would in a Freya or Panache, and possibly not the same in a pluge style as a balconette style) and keep your eye out at outlets and online if you can only afford one at bravissimo prices. Or wait for their sale, they normally do pretty good reductions at sale time.
