Correct bra Size and 'big' knickers

  • Does anyone have a permanent fix for that old problem of the bra wire coming up and poking you in the eye? I've got an expensive bra that I don't want to ditch, but it's unwearable at the moment due to the wire problem. I've tried sewing one back in before, but it never seems to work for long.

    Any ideas?

Being measured in a bra can give inaccurate results, as can being measured without. The old advice used to be to measure in a well fitting soft unpadded bra, or nothing.

Trouble is if you try and measure naked and have saggy boobs your cup size will come out too small. If you try to measure in a bra it can make the measurement too big if it is padded or too small if it is squashing them.

Best way is trial and error and ditch the measuring tapes!

Trouble is that cup size is volume, and you can't measure volume with a tape measure.

Think about a parcel that is 20 cubic centimeters, then tell me how long it is. You can't it could be a long thin parcel or a short fat one or an irregularly shaped one, and boobs are just the same!

The only way to measure the volume of your breasts (unless you have fancy technology and I believe that there are body scanners out there just not in bra shops) is to use a bowl of water and measure how much is displaced when you submerge your breast! Only trouble is that you can't buy a bra sized in millilitres!!! It would be better though....... rucksacks are measured in litres......

I don't know why you quoted me??

All i am saying is i don't need to stand there topless to get properly fitted.

  • To point out that measuring in a bra can skew the measurements. That may have been why you were asked to take your bra off.

Not that measuring is ever very accurate.

I went into Debenhams at the Trafford Centre on Saturday, to buy a strapless bra for a wedding as I didn't have one in 34b......took 34b & 34c into fitting room, assistant looked at me, said you aren't a 34, gave me a 32dd......fiance thinks it's Christmas & his birthday all at once!

Only drawback now is that I have a drawer full of wrong-size bras, and only 1 so far that is right!

As I am planning to lose a bit of weight, is it worth hanging onto the 34b's?

Why you are still exactly the same size!!!

How is Floss still the same size if she was originally looking for a 34B (which presumably she thought her correct size was), and came out with a 32DD?
  • The same size in that her boobs are the same size, but the original bras are the wrong size IYSWIM. with ref to the above posts
  • My husband calls my knickers parachutes and likens my bras to those catapult things that the Romans used to throw stones at their enemies.:rotfl:

Wonders if mens underpants came in bra sizes how many men would claim to be to being 38FF's LOL

I can well believe that it is 75%. You only have to look around at the women on your local high street to see that! I think I'm turning into Gok or those two ghastly horsy women in that I keep wanting to tell women to get fitted for a new bra. I'm always seeing women whose boobs are level with their waste or have fat bulging around the straps etc.

You are so not alone there Hermia... I have to restrain myself sometimes, my DH is sooo looking forward to the day I can't restrain myself and go up to a complete stranger and inform her about her wrong sized bra - he has an image of my man handling her b**bs as well :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I regularly go to my local Bravissimo store (30 odd miles away ) and get checked a couple of times a year. I did get measured @ M&S but found they had me completely wrong they said I was 38D when infact I am 34GG. As far as I'm concerned Bravissimo ROCKS - apart from the prices of course, ut I usually wait for their sales if I can. £30 for a smallish piece of material and a bit of lace - CRIMINAL:D

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

It must be me - I'm still confused.
