Its one thing to identify that you are on an 0870 number but its another when you are not given any indication whatsoever as to when you telephone number is going to be answered.
I recently called a company to register an error that they had made and had to call them several times. It became clear that they expect each customer to be on hold for 10 minutes before answering the call as there was a whole ten minutes marketing messages about the company before I finally got through.
What I objected to is that I wasnt even told what number in the queue I was but that 'my call was important to them' (and obviously became more important, the longer I was on hold). It also became clear that this was the main source of income for the online provider as 90% of the fee I was paying went to a third party.
Is there not a way to register these companies with Ofcom? The company admitted to making a significant error with my purchase but then also proposed to charge me a £2.50 admin error fee for correcting their error. The mistake was also so unbelievably and obviously wrong, it makes me wonder whether this company deliberately makes mistakes with online orders so that people call the 0870 number to recitfy, hence making them considerable money each year!
Any suggestions as to what I can do?0 -

I cannot answer regarding the error that the company made. You could try Trading Standards if you suspect mal-practise.
As for the premium 0870 number, have you tried looking them up on https://www.saynoto0870.com You may find a geographical number there. Alternatively if there isn't a number listed, try their website, often they put a geographical number for people that are calling from overseas. You can use that ! If you find a number which isn't listened on the '...say no ...' site, then post it there for everyone else's benefit.Thank you for reading this message.0 -

Anybody know what's going (or NOT going) on?0 -
I just typed in the url https://www.saynoto0870.co.uk and the site loaded fine. I see that it calls itself ".com" but the url in Firefox still said ".co.uk".
It's not the first time I've seen members saying that the site is down.

Okay, I have just tried it on Firefox, Int Explorer, and Google Chrome and it is working okay. It seems to load as both .com and .co.uk, but I believe the .co.uk just links to the .com page.Thank you for reading this message.0 -
Working fine for me. Been using it for years - saved me a small fortune. One of the most useful sites on the net. Thanks, guys.0

Thanks to all.
Still blanking me! I know I've changed nothing since the last time I loaded it, so presumably they've tweaked something that my paranoid Firefox add-ons don't like .... oh bum!
Time to work through the add-ons, switching off and on 'til I find MY problem.
Again, thanks all round.0 -
You could try a different browser. Google Chrome is reasonable (doesn't have all the Firefox features, but normal viewing is okay).Thank you for reading this message.0

Chas, I had this a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't get on using Firefox or IE on my laptop or from my netbook. I eventually turned my router (BT Homehub 2) off and on and it worked again. I have the same problem now so I'll try the router again, if that fixes it I'll see if I can post on the Saynoto0870 forum to see if it's a known issue and report back here.0 -

Hi, agrinnall,
Thanks for the feedback.
As it happens, things seem to have resolved without any effort on my part!
I got in from IE8 and got the numbers I was after. A couple of days later, Firefox was working, too.
I just love these intermittent glitches .... NOT!
Cheers!0
