  • Thanks Don79 for the advice. We had already left but took the spare copies of our paperwork and petition etc...

Court was initially daunting as there were so many people in the corridors with solicitors and barristers so we hid in the waiting room lol!! Not sure what was going on but after about 20mins, they all moved away (thank goodness!) and OH was called into see judge first.

After a couple of seconds, he came to get me as Judge could see our cases were linked. She was pleasant and the only question asked was to check we had sought professional help.

Then she said she was agreeing to our bankruptcy and that was that. She gave us a number and said we could confidently quote that to any creditors and they had leave us alone.

It was all over so quickly, I dont think she even mentioned the official receiver but Im waiting for one to make contact.... Im a little more worried about that bit but as I see it, there were/are extenuating circumstances. No one would choose to voluntarily lose their house at age of 40 and their job (via medical retirement due to a number of medical conditions) so Im just going to see how it goes. Life really has dealt us and me (medically) a really crap hand but we need to start moving forward. I wont be able to move forward unless I deal with this overwhelming guilt about the situation we find ourselves in. Hopefullly this is the start???!!!!!

I just want the creditors post to stop. As we surrendered our house, Ive had mail re-directed for 6mths (didnt want to return to old house) and it is costing a fortune for OH and myself (pay separately). So we still get all the creditors letters sadly.

On that subject, does anyone know if the OR will want to see all the current letters or are the account numbers etc from the paperwork sufficient. We have this huge folder in our 'bankruptcy stuff' bag that we will both really be so relieved to see the back of!!!!!!

So thanks again to everyone who said the process wouldnt be as bad as we imagined. Id even imagined this huge crown court (if anyone is old enough to remember the programe etc) with me standing in the middle of it, clerk of court making me swear on bible from my little box. It turned out to be an office with tables and lots and lots of files and very pleasant woman sat in front of us.

So good luck to our fellow members of the Oct club. Weve been waiting for this day from 01 Aug when we first petitioned but finally has been and that bit is over. Lisa x

Hi im glad it went well makes me feel better about what to expect when I go in just over a week!
  • Marmalady,

I really hope it goes well for you. Good luck with next week. There was a list outside the court of all the insolvency and petitions for bankruptcys. It was huge!!! And thats just for one day.

ive found it really hard to cope with what I considered the shame etc and lack of support and downright nastiness from family. I just couldnt take it in that im not the first person nor the last person to go bankrupt.

My pal told me to remember that most millionaires have gone bankrupt once or twice before success - not sure how true but did help.

Main thing is, no one has judged us, infact the complete opposite so will be thinking of you Lisa xx

How exciting.... Thanks donna. Actually its quite nice to feel part of something when you are going through such an often lonely and isolating process.

This forum has really given me the strength to be honest with friends and to forget about the arguments and fallouts I have had with family over going br.

Cant thank you enough for that Donna so thanks for putting the time in and I love our pumpkin and huge grin!!!
