Pinkpig, what is LOs average weight gain? There is a huge range of normal for breastfed babies, personally I'd try not to worry if LO is gaining at a rate right for her. Is she having lots of wet and dirty nappies? Meeting milestones? Reasonably happy? I've always been told to not worry about slow gain, but I did panic when LO had a few slow weeks.

Hi feely - she is generally happy in herself. She doesn't like going to other people for very long, and can still feed frequently. She has put 7ozon in the last 4 weeks and is now 11lb 3oz at 14+ weeks. She has plenty of wet and dirty nappies, but only naps between 2 and 10ish minutesin the day unless she's in the pram.

Well we found the dresses - black strapless with beads and sparkles, and comes just below the knee. The bottom part flares out a bit. Can't wait to wear it! Flippin eck baby grumping again, best dash!

Oh FGS, it gets better.. just found out we've been turned down for DLA. Two reasons:

    1. Rhys was under three months at the date of the claim. Date of the claim was 14th September 2009.. Someone can't count!
    2. Rhys does not need any more help than a normal baby of his age..

    I'm speechless!

I don't even want the money for me, it's to stick in the bank in case he needs any help in the future. I'm annoyed to be told we're not doing anything out of the ordinary!

    :(

Elle As many have said, appeal!

When we first claimed for Joe, I think he was about three. I had help from our Portage worker. (Have you been told about them btw? http://www.portage.org.uk/).
Anyway, she told us when we did the forms, to expect to be turned down at first, as most are - and then they're approved on appeal!
Why?, I don't know - it just seems to be keeping some people at DLA in a job.

From other Mums of children at Joes school, I don't know anyone who got approved first time!

  • In my dads case of DLA, they said that a prosthetic limb was not a walking aid as he didnt need a stick or a wheelchair !!! Took 2 appeals for them to understand that if he didnt have the limb, he would not be able to walk !!

She has an average gain of 3.1oz or 3.3oz a week, which is only a tiny bit lower than the average weight gain for breastfed babies. The average gain between 4-6 months is 3.25 - 4.5 ounces per week.

She sounds like she is doing fine and I wouldn't worry. Easier said than done I know, so if you are worried, this page about increasing weight gain can help:

Thanks feelie, I didn't have time to say earlier but (((((hugs)))))) You need to think about yourself and Toby, you two are the most important thing to you. Your OH should be thinking about your wellbeing and not trying to satisfy his own ego. Sorry I know that I don't know him, but it sounds like that's what he's doing.

Pinkpig, when I was worried about Ambers weight gain I took 24 hours worth of nappies (sealed in bags) into the HV :D She did ask...
