Oh FGS, it gets better.. just found out we've been turned down for DLA. Two reasons:

    1. Rhys was under three months at the date of the claim. Date of the claim was 14th September 2009.. Someone can't count!
    2. Rhys does not need any more help than a normal baby of his age..

    I'm speechless!

I don't even want the money for me, it's to stick in the bank in case he needs any help in the future. I'm annoyed to be told we're not doing anything out of the ordinary!

    :(

Call them up and appeal, which is what I had to do. Person I spoke to on the phone was great.

I just phoned them at random to find out how they were getting on with it. Decision was made on Friday and a letter is on it's way. When I get the letter, I can phone again and have another decision maker look at it (said they couldn't do it today)

that's crazy! My friend's special needs health visitor filled her form out cos she said it's really tricky to phrase it in such a way as to get a payout. Do you have anyone who you could ask who's used to the special wording needed for the ridiculous forms?

the thing I hate about it is that you have to be so utterly negative about the child to trigger a payment. But what mum is going to write that!!! crazy bonkers benefit system!

    hugs for you elle xxx

    wedding anniversary question:
He is a very actions person and always shows love to other people by doing nice things for them.

10th anniversary is 'Tin'. So I wondered about recycling a tin can from the shopping and turning it into a tin of promises.

Any more no-spend treats you guys can think of?

    xxx

Is there anything that he likes to do that you don't or try to avoid? For example, does he like to watch sport on tv and you don't? If you were to promise to watch a football match or something and he knew you weren't keen on that type of viewing normally, it may mean more to him as he can see you are trying to really 'treat' him IYSWIM?

I did have the help - my HV, who also has a disabled son and get DLA so knows all about filling in the forms, came round and we wrote it together (in the most depressing tone ever)...

    :(

I'm just so annoyed at them thinking all this is perfectly normal!

OK, as for free ideas, how about going for a walk together to a place he wants to go, make a dinner of his choice, let him have the remote for a night, watch a movie of his choice (that will only be dirty if you so wish it to be ;)), give him a back rum, foot rub, a manicure if he likes them, have a family photo taking day together, mmmmmmmm stuck now !!
