    Congrats Mel xx

I managed to have Charlotte without taking any time off uni, so it can be done! It was hard work though, although it is Open Uni so I didn't have to leave the house to do it and could study when she was napping between feeds.
Here I go again on my own....

From 6.30-7 we have been practicing our spoon usage; he is a master of taking the spoon with food on it, keeping it at a sensible angle and shoving it into his gob. However when refilling the spoon comes up, he always gets distracted by stabbing the food in the bowl over and over with his spoon.

Last night he had two wakings where he basically screamed the place down - he wouldn't be comforted and hated being held, was a constant fight against him squirming out of my grip. Both times the only thing that eventually soothed him was booby. These two wakings were way more intense than usual, he usually just cries and wants comforting. Then this morning he has been grumpy all morning too, letting out his new little screams frequently, constantly walking to mummy's bedroom door and butting against it... so, sigh! Not that terrible on sleep but not sure what's bothering the moppet quite so much!

Hope others had better sleep :) I meant to say yesterday Weezl that the HR shenanigans are very suspenseful but it sounds like excellent news and we are holding our collective breath waiting for written confirmation! I can only imagine how much of a difference it will make :)

Will there come a point where we NEED a routine, or do you reckon I can just wing it between now and him starting school?! :o

ETA: Incidentially, two and a half weeks since the MRI.. and still no damn results! *stomps foot*

Elle, I have no doubts that you and Rhys will come up with a system that works for you both and that he will continue to thrive in your care whether you have a routine or choose not to. :)

To answer your point more generally and in an evidence-based way though (if anyone's interested!):

I think the need for routine can come from either side, but from my child psychology diploma I learned that the only time it can present problems and need a bit of thought is where there is a mismatch between child rhythmicity (how much they naturally do things at the same times each day) and parenting style (how much routine the parent likes to give).

It's not so difficult when you have routine parents and a non-routine baby, the baby tends to be more like: 'well I wasn't actually peckish mum, but now you've shown me the toast I'll go for it!'.

The scenarios I read about where there can be an issue is with a very routine child with very non-routine parents, since it can create something called 'learned helplessness' in the child which is a risk factor for adult depression.

Without boring you all too much, my summary would be that routines are good if they work for parent and baby. If the two are quite different in temperament, then it's best to go with baby, especially if baby is very high in rhythmicity.

Rhythmicity can be hard to spot in an agreeable child though, so I'm happy to write more about that if anyone would find it helpful.

happened to me 3 when i was coming back form mat leave with having katie...then i got pregnant with christopher, and now am due to go back to said hellh0le. with hells biggest b1tch as a manager. but on a brighter note for you - it is easier than you think to bite your tongue. My AM at the time when i went back was only new (been doing it 3 weeks before i came back) - i had previously been AM for almost 2 years. she didnt like it when i knew more than her. therefore started vicious runours about me, and telling lies about me to b1tch from hell!! Carla was not a hapy bunny!!! therefore i REALLY dont wanna go back to work.......:(

Oh Carla! That's horrible :(. Big hugs. When do you need to go back?

Bruno, as an outsider, my feeling from what you've said is that elijah has realised there are times in his day where you are his main carer and times when it is DW's turn. My sense of him is that he's just experimenting with the edges of that to try and work out what the rules are. I.e 'ok so this is daddy time, but if I'm really upset will mummy come too?' that kind of idea...

I dunno, does that fit at all with what you and DW are noticing?

Yes, the work stuff is indeed suspenseful. And not in a good exciting way! I am one of life's planners and to not know where I am for a month is very unsettling. I've not been sleeping well and this is a great shame, because if fergie sleeps I feel like I should be able to too! :) Thanks for your support Bruno. You're a lovely chap if you don't mind my saying so!:D

Susan thanks for posting the budget I really apreciate it. If I have further questions I think I'll post them on here cos I figure budgetting and babies is pretty much bang on topic for this forum, and others may appreciate the info too :). Also: I bought a set of two old pillow cases at a boot sale, white background with a thin and thick pale minty green stripe running vertically through it. I shall keep one in case we are team pink, but would you like the other one for a pillow slip dress for Alice? The fairies will be happy to oblige...:D

Hmmmm that's very interesting Weezl! There may be an element of that to this, you're right. Although OH reported that yesterday afternoon when they visited their local children's charity shop+cafe as they quite often do, he threw a big tantrum both at the cafe and on the way home, which is totally unlike him. Maybe all connected, time will tell!

The routine stuff is very interesting too, and I think a degree of our clashing is mum is full-on routine, I am not really - Elijah isn't either!

And not sure what you think you're doing getting this thread on topic! I guess 1 post in a hundred being on topic is allowed :p

    Morning all,

Hope everyone who had bad days yesterday have much better ones today!

Feeling much brighter this morning as OH did all the night stuff last night, so even though Lexi woke me I didnt have to get out of bed and once I knew OH had woken up I could get straight back off to sleep! :D
Oh and its Friday and I just luurrve the weekend!

Anyone have anything special planned for the weekend?

Nothing planned here yet, Did I tell you all that we went to Blackpool last Saturday and then as we were driving away from the front we got a puncture, like completely flat! We have that slime stuff in the car, so you dont have to change the tyre but had never used it before and we couldnt work out the instructions in the half light! :rotfl: Note to self - next time we buy gadgetry - read instructions so we know what we are doing with it! :rotfl: Anyway we look in the boot only to find that the spare was one of those space saving tyres! All the way home from Blackpool driving at a max speed of 50mph, felt like it took forever!

Cue Sunday morning where we got stuffed over for four new tyres, always happens to us on a sunday when you cant shop around!!

Wasnt so bad though, as we woke to a nice suprise Saturday morning, a cheque from HMRC for £1200, I didnt claim ctc when Joshua was born in 2003 and just got that!

Right Miss Lexi is demanding me so Ill be gone!
