Tia - I have never bought Keira a chav velour suit but she has 2! A brown and a black, from my sister Ellie, hand me downs, my mum thinks they look great! I have sent her to nursery in the black one once, because it has stars on it, and I'm not bothered if it gets slathered in paint and bogeys.

I normally dress Keira either in skirt & top with tights, or dungaree dress "& top and tights. Everything with tights! She needs new jeans now though, her's are a bit HALF MAST 7!

SM - Yeah I am quite lucky, doubt I would be if I had another baby though, don't know anyone that has a child younger than Keira! Though OH's mum would still spoil, she can't help herself at all when she sees dresses or jumpers.
I'm quite lucky that I have a choice of a few babysitters aswell, my mum, OH's mum or my sister who is 16 next month, she's good with Keira, she watched her today whilst we nipped to the dentist and had been drawing Snow white and the 7 dwarves on paper for Keira to colour in, and she's very good at them too!!
  • Hi ladies (and guys), can I just pick your experienced brains for a moment?

My best mate's gone into labour at 32 weeks this afternoon. Obviously I can't help her out with that, but wondered if you guys had any good ideas for things I could help out with for her and her OH for the coming few weeks which might be pretty tough.

Any ideas that spring to mind (especially you ladies who've been through that already)?

Thanks :) (sorry to just burst in on you too ;))

Nah not woe is me at all, it's nice to have someone to show they care! Even if it's a token gift or offering to babysit whilst you and phillip went out or whatever.
I realise I've been very lucky.

Is she going to deliver or are they trying to stop it?

    Either way.

Some freezer meals if you can (things in ready to defrost and microwave portions).
Offer to do some housework like dusting/hoovering cleaning the bathroom. Keep the house stocked with milk and bread. Basically the biggest help to me was keeping things at home ticking over so that when we did come home there wasn't a few weeks build up of grot to be cleaned.

Best of luck to her and her lo and some good old *get strong little baby vibes* too (they work) ;)

Many ideas will depend on whether her baby needs to go into the Special Care unit or not, as this will make her extra-busy after she returns home with all the visits.

I could have done with practical help like having someone I could trust to do shopping, your friend may not have completely stocked up on baby things like nappies, & the nursery may not be ready.

Also with the baby being early, he/she may be small - your friend could have stocked up with "Newborn" (9lb) size clothes but finds she needs "Early Baby" (7.5lb) vests & 'gros. Wait and see on this!

Ok folks I'm strugglin at the mo and really feel I can't contribute much or anything constructive. So I bid you all fair well for a while.
    :grouphug: We'll miss you.
Only gripe is that EVERYONE mostly bought me 0-3months clothes, (so did I as accordin to my mum babies go through lots of clothes!) she lived in sleepsuits mostly! I kept a very cute white cardigan I bought for her from adams and a vest/sleepsuit from when she was born and chucked the rest, felt most aggrieved about that, actually cried.
I just sent OH to the shops to change everything we could for bigger sizes.

She's delivering as we speak, they've given her the steroids for the baby's lungs and she's in the delivery suite.

Thanks for the ideas both, I think the baby will be in the SCBU for a few weeks, so maybe I can offer maid duties and shopping so she doesn't have to worry about coming home to a mess.

As for the nursery not being ready - they've got nothing!! She was planning to get all her stuff once on ML (in November) but obviously that's not going to happen!

Thanks again, I just feel a bit like I need to *do* something but don't quite know what! xx

Those steroids are damn wonderful things - I had them at 28 weeks and had a c/section at 29 weeks, Andrew was off the ventilator within days thanks to the steroids.

Once on ML? Mainland? Sorry, curious .... Anyway, if she finds herself in hospital for a few days, perhaps take her a laptop and wireless dongle so she can shop online for the nursery!

ETA - Durrrrrrrr, just realised you meant Maternity Leave! Think I lived too long in the wilds of Scotland ..... :rotfl:

  • Go on freecycle to get as much baby bits you can like cot, baby gym, baby bouncer chair thing, steriliser if needed. People are always giving away baby equipment and clothes, they need the room. I got a lot of stuff for jack and molly this way.

Good luck and i hope the baby is well. 32 weeks is early but not too awful in this day and age.
