Well, a bottle warmer would be very much appreciated - I'm an MSE girl I don't need anything to be glossy and new.

Fitz No doubt Krystal will know more but I think there is something the doc can prescribe to help dry it up if your in pain with it which I presume you must be if you were big before (sorry for terminology).

    Good evening ladies (and gentlemen!).

Thought I would pop over and say hello/ask for advice. Had a gorgeous baby girl on Saturday called Holly and currently working on birth story to put on the other thread, but needing DH to fill in the blanks for me!

I had planned to breastfeed, but those of you who remember me from the pregnancy thread will know that I have massive breasts (which I hate, I am not boasting!) and we have had problems with Holly latching on. This resulted in her not getting enough and as she developed jaundice and was dehydrated and I was terribly stressed from hand expressing colostrum, we have decided not to breastfeed, but to stick with bottle (she had required top ups of formula due to the dehydration). It was a difficult decision as I had kept trying her on the breast and expressing into a syringe whilst topping up with formula, but it's just not worth the stress and depression that had been creeping in (and it's only day 4!). Everyone at hospital was very keen to help, however, everyone had conflicting advice and I was getting far too much pressure from all directions that it just didn't make sense to continue.

Anyway, my question is, my milk has now come in and my already heavy breasts are weighing a tonne. Any tips on how to get rid of the milk? I am not sure if I have caused myself problems by starting to express or if they would have been this full regardless. Any ideas?

I had been lurking before giving birth, but not had a chance to catch up on any news, so apologies for jumping into the middle of conversations! Just need some advice at the moment, but will join in more later. Thanks. x

Hi Fitz!! first, congratualtions and welcome to the board!!
I breastfed my first with colostrum and expressed a bit too, and i didnt fed my 2nd with breast at all.....there are some great gurus about breastfeeding on the thread that will have much better advice than me, but all i can advise is tat cabbages in my bra really helped me!!!!!! :o

p.s. you also reminded me that i havent wrote my birth story/stories yet!!!
    Carla-Farla!! :)

  • fitz, as you were only expressing for a few days, it shouldnt take too long for you to stop producing milk. I expressed for 11 days and then stopped and my not massive but bigger than I would like boobs took just over a day to dry up. Yes they were full, hard sore and tender for that day, but it got easier and after about 3 or 4 days felt like normal.

However other people say to do different things, you need to decide if it is too sore to handle, then just express a little bit to ease the pressure

    And congrats :)

STOPTOBER CHALLANGE ... here we go !!
  • Fitz, take ibuprofen and paracetamol for discomfort, have a warm bath and pop a couple of warm flannels on them or express a small amount or if it gets really bad, but not too much... You don't want to stimulate them into producing more... It usually dries up in a couple of days...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

fitz if they're anything like mine were they'll dry up within a day or two of stopping, i expressed 6oz one evening and the next 1oz and couldnt get anything the next day! have a warm bath if they get sore and then they leak and ease the pressure. and congrats :)
