i have one from homebase i have to say the backs are flimsy and i am not overly impressed with it! Last week i bought a single wall unit for a different project from ikea and i have found it very good 3 sheleves aposed to my homebase 3 shelfs! good back on it too loads of nails in the kit!
I do know returns and exchanges from ikea can be a paina nd involve waiting ages in a quenue:j Proud mum to Jade age 10 years and Baby Ellie born Christmas Day:eek: with a broke heartProven to be a little fighter and battling on with her heart condition :j

I have a Homebase kitchen which is lovely but you get totally ripped off for all the accessories, knobs, fascias etc which are very overpriced.
In the utility is an Ikea kitchen which is OK and the bits are readily available. Small Kitchen here and it cost £3,500, fitted with beautiful ikea wooden worktops.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
We recently purchased and fit an ikea kitchen and are very pleased with it .We have had loads of comments on it.The best thing is the silent closing hinges!!
It took some planning and a big van to collect it all but it was a really good price and appliances come with 5 yr garuntee.
Hope this helps0 -
I would recommend Ikea everytime we have Bravard (discontinued) as i wanted an Island style Kitchen. B-I-L is a fitter & thought the quality was fantastic, he went with us to look at it first & gave it a thumbs up but we got it for a steal as they had a sale on and 25% off coupon fron the news of the world thanks to this site.
Had a wickes kitchen before that and it just fell apart after 3 years, doors fell off, all the clips supporting the shelf's broke (had hell of a time trying to get the bits out of holes to replace them).0 -
Hmmm I'll let you know how it finishes...
Right in the middle of having our kitchen fitted, day 2, day 1 was stripping out the old one.
So far so good, Howdens turned up on time, all units pre assembled which I like. I'm sure we'll have a couple of items missing but the beauty of Howdens is that they have it all in stock and so if you're missing anything, you can get it that day!
Price? Seemed very reasonable, about 17 units, chimney extractor hood, ceramic sink, oak worktops and an oak laminate floor....all in for under £3k and the kitchen fitter's being paid around £1k.
New kitchen including floor for around £4k fitted, we think that's a very good price considering the quality of the units and it includes fitting the new range type cooker we bought seperately as well.
Don't forget Howdens do cheaper ranges of kitchens as well as all the expensive ones.
On the appliance front...bought a new dual range cooker from a company called Jual Domestics for half the price of all the usual online suspects, Currys, Boots, Appliancesonline etc...
I could think very differently by day 5 of continuous microwave food and sitting in a lounge looking at my dishwasher and fridge but hey, so far so good!!0 -

Yes, they do that at Wembley Park too, such a good service, saves you ages in looking for things in their warehouse. :T

I'm going to use Howdens for carcasses, doors and handles as they are having a 10% sale on at the moment and my mate gets 60% off the full RRP anyway.
Where is the best place for worktops, sinks and appliances?
Many thanks0 -
Not read all the posts but thought I'd share my experience and may be helpful for you.
It's rather cheeky but nevertheless......We got B&Q to come and do their free design service for our new kitchen. They give you printouts of how it's going to look and more importantly a list of everything you will need to purchase. We took the list to Howdens who made sure they could match everything that we required and then undercut B&Q by 20%.
IMO the quality is much better with Howdens and another bonus is the carcases come complete so only the legs & doors to fix on, unlike B&Q flat pack. I fitted it myself and had a few bits extra so took them back to Howdens who refunded me the difference.
As I say, it's a cheeky option but in for a penny and all that ;o)0 -
I have an ikea kitchen. Solid wood doors. I'm very pleased with them. The joiner who fitted them seemed impressed with the quality and he was quite inventive in overcoming some of the minor things we had. We have soft close doors and drawers and the tall wall cupboards. I have a large kitchen and it was about 3k. I bought separate granite worktops that were about 2.5k from a local supplier and got all of my matching stainless steel appliances online from a number of suppliers which saved thousands of pounds overall.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200
