which fitted kitchen? Ikea, Wicks, B&Q or homebase?

Morning all!

Think i may have managed to finally convince OH to replace our poor excuse of a kitchen...hurray!! Any reccommendations, advice or experinces of kitchen providers would be appreciated, as i've never bought one before!!! Will need to buy new appliances, but really need to keep the costs down or he'll never agree!!!

I've heard good things about ikea, but a little reluctant as the nearest one is a 2 hour drive away. Long way to go for a forgotten screw me thinks!!

thanks
x

We have just replaced our old kitchen with one form IKEA - Abstrackt- white glossy finish. It has turned out much better than we expected and visitors have said how expensive it looks. We did buy a granite worktop as we found it in the sale and that finishes it off nicely. We also went for the double height top cupboards, they go all the way up to the ceiling, it basically gives you a 1/3rd more space to store things you dont use that often. We had no problems with missing parts and the builders fitted it easily enough.
  • thanks for replying. I've heard really good things about ikea. I'll have to get over there for a gander...hoping that they've still got a child play area, don't fancy trying with my 3 yr old in tow!!

  • Hi there

Have you thought about Howdens? They only sell to trade people but if you found a good kitchen fitter they could get it all for you. My other half is a carpenter and regularly does this for his customers. He will be doing our own kitchen next month as Howdens are having a sale in October so we are waiting till then!

He also says Wickes are good quality.
  • Sorry, forgot to say that Howdens are actually really reasonalbly priced - often giving as much as 60% discount to some trades people!
  • I hve a Wickes kitchen and I am very pleased with it.
  • We fitted an IKEA Kitchen over 4 years ago and it still looks fab. Look around and make sure you get a good quality worktop too to set it off nicely - we didn't and now regret it and also DO NOT GET A CHEAP SINK - its just not worth it!!!

Kitchen polishes up really nicely - good luck with it all
  • Hi,

We had a B&Q kitchen fitted earlier this year and it was an absolute nightmare from ordering right through to 'completion'. If you have your own fitters and buy a B&Q kitchen that would be a better option but you would get a better quality kitchen from Howdens.

A carpenter I know makes really expensive fitted kitchens. He says that Wickes kitchens are really good and would recommend them

  • I need a new kitchen too. So thanks for the advice folks. Mine is B&Q built by my sister and put up by a friend 20 years ago. So no complaints about B&Q for me. My ds and dil have an Ikea kitchen and it is lovely.
I really do need one as the kitchen tap is broken and the cupboards although re inforced a couple of times and the doors re varnished twice are looking rather tired and saggy.
