Hi all
I just wanted to say thankyou! following the advise found on here I duly went to Boots and bought the mooncup. What a surprise. I have not been able to use tampax since having children and hated using towels as my periods tend to be heavy. The moon cup feels cleaner and likes other here I have less cramping.
I was so impressed that my daughter asked for one too. However she has struggled with using it, I think it is because she has also used towels and not tampax so it all feels strange.
I have recommended to others at work since and at least one friend has been converted to the mooncup!

i used my mooncup for the first time today
i am so impressed! after i got over the squeamishness of removing it for the first time its been fab!!
i felt to have total trust in it to not leak (which suprised me) i felt like it was a bit low a couple of times but i have now trimmed the stem and its been great
just hope i can get it out with the shorter stem! dont think it will be a problem though
dont think there will be any going back now!!- prior planning prevents poor performance!

OK, I hate the idea of all the bleach and chemicals in sani products, in fact my kids were allergic to disposable nappies - except a brand called peaudouce (speling?) which I haven't seen around for years. They were unbleached.
So, can I ask, this mooncup, you just insert it as high as you can and it seals itself in?
Also, those of you who use washable towels, what do you do with them if you change during the day? and do they wash well? or do they get stained and yucky looking? I guess you could put them in a bucket of napisan like the nappies?
Sorry to get so detailed, but all advice gratefully received, to help make a choice!
Oh, and where is cheapest for a mooncup?0 -

Sorry I don't use washable towels, don't need them with a mooncup, andso can't help with your other questions.ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0 -
Myself and the other couple of people I know who use it have trimmed the stem completely off. Mine tends to fit quite low and the stem caused problems with discomfort originally - also not tempted to pull on the stem to remove if it's not there0

Well ain't it the law of Murphy!?
I bought myself a Mooncup a couple of months ago, tho haven't tried it yet admittedly - still working up to that.
I'm now on day 34 of my cycle and still no sign of my period! Due to the fact that I've had my tubes tied I'm not that likely to be pregnant, but it would be just my luck that I won't need it any more!:wave:0 -
After a horrible day with terrible cramps, I'm off to Boots tomorrow to buy my own mooncup. Fingers crossed we get on ok"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0

Well I tried it today but had to remove it after a couple of hours, it just feels too big. I trimmed the end thing right off in the end but I could still feel it. I have an ache now, like it was too wide. I got the bigger one as I am over 30 and have had 2 children, maybe I need the smaller one but I don't want to pay out another 20 quid just yet. I will give it another try tomorrow as I really like the idea of it. Wish me luck lol"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0

I used mine for the first time also last week. The first day of my period I tried it and just for about 3 hours. I had the same feeling as you describe. I put this down to two factors. Firstly, I mau have been a little "sensitive" at the start of my period. Secondly, I had it placed a little too low. Although the instructions state that it doesnt need to go as far inside as a tampon, I found it needed to go in quite a way. Use it later in the day for a few hours again. 2nd day I didnt use it. £td day I used it, placed higher up with stem trimmed to half its original length and was totally unaware of it.
When you first learn to use tampons it can take many months-this just toook a couple of days.
Bear in mind that as the week progresses, your cirvix tends to move back upwards so be careful not to insert i too high towards the end of your period.
As someone else said-wet it first. Make sure you fold it as the instructions show. I think its amazing for all of the reasons mentioned earlier. Im going to make some sanitary pads although I didnt like the idea at first. Now, with the mooncup, they will not get yucky after all-doubt there will be a mark on them but its a "just in case" if Im out/cant get to a loo or whatever. I bought some cheap thin brown flannels to make mine from poundstretcher.
