  • Hi,
I've just filled in the online form, but wondered if anyone knows the answer to my question - I have an AVC pension with Scottish Widows which I think I took out around or just prior to 1999, does anyone know if I would be eligible for a payout?
    Thanks
  • Hi. I've had an endowment policy with Scottish Widows for 35/36 years and have lived at the same address for the past 25 years yet I have no recollection of receiving a payout in 2000. Has anyone else been in this position and what level of payout would I have received? I'm a bit reluctant to ring them in case I did get money back them and might look foolish if I've simply forgotten.

You'll probably have got a cheque in 2000, its a bit odd feeling foolish as it is 10 years ago for the cost of call at least you will get confirmation.
  • I have tried - unsuccessfully - to answer the query -

    Who is a qualifying member?

The website is of no help. Neither are the people on the no help 'helpline' who just say to submit a claim.

Extensive googling and digging around the internet has been no use so far.

    Does anyone have the answer?
  • Hi, sorry for being very dumb here but i am not understanding this at all.

What type of policy must you have? i have a Life Insurance policy with them, can i claim with this??

Probably not, but just wanted to make sure

Had an endowment policy with them since 1994 and surrendered it 3 months ago due to being out of work.
After surrendering it i threw my policy details away and today i phoned the 0845 number to get my policy number, and they told me to phone this number 0131 6556000 to retrieve it.
I give as many details as possible and they had no record of me, and they asked me to get the direct debit number from my bank and phone back. Phoned back with the direct debit number and still no, but after me being persistent, I was put on hold for a couple of minutes and they came back with my policy number. Reason being because it was a surrendered policy.

  • Can anyone that filled the online form in confirm that when you pressed the submit button there was no conformation that it had been sent and the page went blank.

  • I have pm'd MS Alana to see if the opening post on this thread can clarify who would be a 'qualifying member'. Seems likes lots of people here are asking if they would qualify and are unable to find out - as indeed I have not been able to either.

As for filling in the online form -I had no confirmation it has been sent - or received.

I had to fill the form in again because I thought I had no confirmation, but on the second attempt of submitting it I scrolled up the page and saw confirmation.

    Hi,
Thank you for the PM Deleted_User, I've emailed Scottish widows and here is their response:

"With Profits life and pension policies qualify for the Variable Compensation payment while non WP life and pension policies qualify for the Fixed Compensation payment of £500 (now plus interest) PEPs, ISAs, unit trusts, bank accounts and credit cards do not confer membership rights, nor does the International Investment Bonds and Private Portfolio Bond products issued by Scottish Widows International Ltd."

I would suggest if you're in doubt just fill in the form and wait for them to get back to you.

    I hope that helps,

    Alana
