sunnyday - I'm sure your dogs are well cared for as are mine and its just that I wont have them in my own bed or on the furniture because I dont like the hair. We've always had dogs and never had any fleas until this summer when they had them and have been a b*gger to get rid of. We use the one spot stuff, bath, groom, worm etc and frequently change their bedding. My 2 are rough coated with the older one having a very curly coat as he is half bedlington. I read on the internet that fleas dont like brewers yeast so we've been giving them a small dose of that as well.
I dont know why they've got them this year when they normally dont but we have had a cat in the garden so they perhaps thats how they got them
Elona - (((hugs))) sorry to hear about your aunty x
nic1lou2 - well done on the weight loss:TDo what you love :happyhear0 -
[QUOTE=mummysaver;25317709]dd2 has cookery today, apparently she was told last week that they are lucky that their teacher is on an exchange with the current one, as the regular woman won't let them use meat as she is a vegetarian, hmmmm! Anyway today she is cooking breakfast, she has taken in two slices of wholemeal bread, toms, 30g butter, 2 eggs and a 2 slices of ham as per the instructions, since she doesn't eat eggs or toms in their natural state I can't help but feel that it won't be a huge success! Still the best bit was that they were meant to take in a plate and cutlery - surely the school has those? Argh, the opportunity to teach children about food is so valuable, yet it seems to be constantly squandered. Still at least this meal involves some cooking (the eggs and poss the toms) and is fairly well balanced. Right, I'll climb off my high horse now!
/QUOTE]
my 2 DD's have cookery today and I agree about squandering an opportunity. DD2 is making sausage rolls. whats wrong with that I hear you say? well she has had to take in a block of puff pastry, sausagemeat and an egg! in other words she will roll out the pastry , stick in the sausagemeat , roll it up ,glaze it with egg - job done
in my day we had to make our own puff pastry and I still remember rolling out the pastry and then sticking little blobs of butter all over and rerolling and doing this several times. fortunately my girls have the oportunity to learn these skills at home with me, but what an opprtunity wasted.
DD1 is taking gcse cookery ( or whatever it is called these days- god I sound old!) she is making treacle tart. they have to choose a dish to cook they HAVE to practice at home and then recreate it at school , they are not allowed any help at school as it goes towards their final mark! they photograph it to make a calendar later. If they are not allowed any help, what exactly does that teacher do for 2 hours? I just dont get it
there thats my rant over

Afternoon everyone :hello:
Sorry for your loss Elona and still thinking of you all Clare. xxx
Very, very, very tired here this morning as OH was up all night with stomach cramps and he needed a nurse. It was so stormy that when I finally fell asleep at 3am he had convinced me that the satelite dish was going to blow off so I worried myself about that.I'm no good at going back to bed after the girls have gone to school so I decided to take myself and doggy out for a foraging walk. Glad I did as it blew away the cobwebs and I landed 2lbs of brambles, 1lb of sloes, and a lb each of rose hips and Rowan berries. :j:j:j I'm scratched to bits and got soaked but have treated myself to a hot chocolate and marshmallows.
The kilner jars and jam jars are sterilising and I'm about to make sloe gin, bullace gin, bramble gin, raspberry (my own from the freezer) gin, blackberry jam, rasberry jam, rhubarb and ginger jam, rowan jelly, rosehip jelly and apple sauce.
Shoulder of lamb is stuffed with garlic and rosemary and ready to go in the oven to slow roast. Having it with roasties and HG veg (carrots, turnips and cabbage)
Better get on with it.
Haribo x0 -
Sure you've got enough gin there Haribo?
I've made some damson gin and will be adding quince vodka to the drinks cupboard before long;)0 -

MSD - thanks for your kind thoughts, I took it very easy last night ('cooked' frozen pizzas at £1 each from Lidl, and sat on the sofa most of the evening!) - it's a while since I've been called a Young Lady LOL!
Thanks also to you & Donny-Gal for asking after Dad.
He is in the regular OAP home now, and seems to be settling, although he is still very confused - this got worse while he was in the secure unit and he picked up some bad habits there (like wandering around with hot drinks and being obsessed with the time, especially for meals & such) which they are trying to get him out of. We met the 'new' (been there a month) manager last week, and she is great! Really down-to-earth and sensible, and seems to have Dad's measure already - she sussed that he 'play acts' sometimes and pretends not to know how to do things, when he doesn't want to do them (He's always been a rather selfish man and likes to get his own way!), and claims not to remember things when it suits him! Not saying he isn't ill - but the trick is knowing when it's genuinely the illness, and when it's not, which a lot of the healthcare workers didn't seem to be able to do - but she can! Mum was a lot happier after we had a long chat with her. I finally got him to let me cut his hair on Saturday, so now he looks less like a tramp! He still mentions coming home sometimes, and often thinks he is in a hospital, but we let him think that he is recuperating and tell him he needs to keep eating and show that he can look after himself, and side-step the coming home bit, and he forgets about it quite quickly, which seems the kindest thing to do at the moment.
Wow - that was a long post! Sorry.
Was hoping to do a but more tidying (gently MSD I promise!) in the garden tonight, but weather has turned drizzly & yuck, so I guess I will sort out the clean washing at home instead - what joy!
HR at work have shown yet again how incompetent they are and now tell me they are extending my 'at risk' period for another week until 1st Oct becuse they have not been able to put together the proposal for my redundnacy and get it signed off by senior management - honestly, it really isn't all that difficult and complicated! After wanting to get rid of me for so long I just don't understand why they are dragging their feet over it now - it's so frustrating!
Hope everyone else having a good day. Special (((HUGS))) to Claire & Elona,
