OS Daily Thread - Tuesday 22nd September

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 22nd September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all
Ok, here in Devon we just had our 12th day of no rain and all but one of those days has been sunny and lovely! How lucky am I? (she says, trying not to gloat!)
Molly - my homehelp comes via an agency that OT use and I have booked times with them and they can send anyone they like really! But only when my reg lady is off do they send someone else. I would have thought that that should happen for everyone, after all, you are booking the 'help' not the person.
Sunny - I often read the day befores' thread the next morning before I post.

Bitsy - My nephews used to spend three weekends a month with me from a very young age to give my sister time to herself. This all came to a stop 3 yrs ago when my mother (and by default) sister fell out with me. For the following few months I was allowed to see them once a week on a sunday afternoon, then that went down to once a month and then 18 months ago I was informed that I was never to see them again and she changed my eldest nephews phone so I couldn't even text him. But having had them 3 weekends a month for 12 and 7 yrs respectively they were a huge part of my life and I miss them desperately. Sorry to hear your brother is stopping you from seeing the children, it's the kids that lose out in situations like this isn't it?
thrift - Sorry you all have a cold, I hope it passes quickly.
sistercas - I stole it from another post somewhere on the forums
. Glad you are feeling better hon.
FairyE - How is your fathers situation at the moment? And please stop over-doing things and just REST young lady!!

Bargain - What is the news on your brother in law hon?
My OS-iness today will be mostly darning and mending - have two ripped sheets (I just don't know my own strength
) and edging the muslin cloths. Plus my OH has holes in two pairs of trouser pockets. He keeps losing his change down his leg!

We are driving up to Exeter today to test drive another car. I am making sandwiches to take with us so we aren't tempted to snack.
Hope you have a great day today. Warm gentle

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.

Good morning MSD and all who follow.
I'm at work today. Packed lunch for me-ham sandwiches and fruit, and for dd chicken sandwich, yoghurt, tiny square of chocolate caramel slice(HM by mum)and fruit. We are having some of that simply fish (not OS) for tea-it needs eating out of the freezer.
I went to a session at school last night about how to teach dd to read using phonics-it sounds VERY complicted but apparently works well.
I hope the car trial is sucessful MSD.
Hope everyone has a good day.July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Morning all:j
Wow! Get me- on here so early:D
Claire - thinking of you and your family.
Not much to report so early in the morning - still no washing to do, ironing done at the weekend (a la Archers!)
Still have some cooked mince left. I may take some for my lunch, or have some for dinner or even freeze! If DD is 'all minced out' we may just have egg n' chips!
I am making a patchwork throw for the winter and am debating whether to take it to school to work on during my lunchhour in the staff room. I can't bear sitting there for an hour simply doing nothing except listen to gossip. At least if I'm sewing it would be productive gossip:rolleyes: I've been known to get out in the school allotment and spend my lunch-hour weeding rather than sit and do nothing! I'm sure they all think I'm mad! Mad, but very OS:T
Have a good day all.

Morning All
N9eav - have a succesfull fishing trip
Looks like is going to be another nice day here, never know what to wear at the moment, quite nippy first thing then warm by lunchtime.
Office this morning housework later, oh was called into work so have the house to myself so will just enjoy that.
Hoisin pork belly with egg fried rice for dinner so will put the belly in the slow cooker in a mo, no doubt will be doing some washing as normal - never ends.
Have a great day.x0 -
Morning all
Just a quick one from me before I high-tail it to my other department for the morning
Bargainbird - hugs for you - that's a terrible thing to have happended and my thoughts are with you. x
Last nights dinner was duck in plum sauce (I made this), stir fried veg (OH made this) and rice (the steamer made this) rather than the pancakes I had planned because I didn't get out soon enough from work to pick up the stuff I needed. I did find, however that the runny damson jam, when doctored with some soy sauce and spices is so close to plum sauce that you can hardly tell the differenceOH will probably take the rest to work for lunch and we are off to a friends house for fondue this evening, so no cooking for me
Right - must go - have a good day all, cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Kids up, coffee made! have to put BM on today, get dinner out of freezer - but might have to buy a few veggies.
Need to get some marzipan to finish the Christmas cakes that I've made. Cheaper to buy from Tesco's - 3 pounds!!! but not as much fun!
Have a good day - looks like it's going to be a fine one again!Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all,
Bargain bird, I hope your BIL had a comfortable night xx
Looks like it will be another nice day here again, it is lovely that its so sunny later on, saves on the heating :T
Fish pie for tea tonight, made from some left over fish, and mash from a few weeks ago, so very easy, I wll give dd one of the veggie ready meals from the freezer, will have it with brocoli and cabbage.
As well as the normal tidy round I have one load of washing to do, and I need to re boil my grape jelly to try and thicken it a bit.
NPM thanks for the suggestion of the Nigella recipe, I am going to try that today, I had to get some red peppers, so will let you know how it goes.
I also need to clean out and tidy the freezer, I am sure I have an overload of veggie meals in there, and need to get them organised.
I will also make a shepherds pie for tomorrow, and one for next week, so that should keep me out of trouble
Have good days all xx0 -
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH
I typed a big long reply and between my dongle that's playing up and flakey AOL I've lost it.
I had to spend £26 on a pair of shoes for DD. Yep you heard me right. £26 for a kid who's 14 months old. She has very big feet for her age and they are quite wide so can't buy off the peg stuff in Mothercare so Clarks it is. Daylight robbery is what I call it  I don't even spend that much on shoes for myself and there is significantly more material being used for my feet
OS wise its tuna, rice combo thing for tea. Got a nice thick slice of beef to cook in SC for kids tea.
Washing up to date just loads and loads of ironing which I can't do when the kids are around, it has to be of an evening.
BM was on yesterday eve so shouldn't need to put that on again today. Just need to check out the Flylady and that's pretty much my day. Am supposed to be meeting a friend this afternoon so I hope she doesn't cancel!!!
Diva - my long reply was really to you. I'll try and keep it brief  My brother isn't phycially stopping me seeing the kids but after being civil to him as per a request from my parents he completely blanked my H a couple of weeks ago. When pressed about it he reckons he's got nothing to say to my H (as if I have anything more than b*gger all to say to him ) but I reckon he sulking because he seems to think my H is "snubbing" him (as they hardly ever see each other). He's got more arrogant since he's been in the Police force and has flatly refused to apologise for all the vile things he's said in the past. I know if I kept bumping into him round at my mums things would kick off again and for my own sanity (and the kids) I am staying away. By default the means the kids too but I don't have any other choice. He does use his kids as pawns (like your sister) and I won't be held to ransom like that. At the end of the day its the kids that lose out but NONE of this would have happened if his wife hadn't been stirring things up back in the day when our DS's were first born. I can only hope your nephews seek you out when they are old enough to think for themselves. hugs to you - it's gut wrenching x
sorry that was still a mammoth post
N9eav - enjoy the fishing
Clare - any news on BIL? Thinking of you all still xxxx
Right off to check out Flylady thread. Who says my life isn't excitingI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

Morning all - my DS is 6 today!!! This time 6 years ago I was screaming at the top of my voice - 'Never effing again!!!' Needless to say I did and DD popped out 2 years later - but that is all - no more!!
He even had a lie in today which is unusual!! 7am he got up - shame DD was up at 6!! hehe!
Today I've got to S&S kitchen, wrap DS's pressies for him to open tonight when we are all home - OH at work at mo. DS wants HM Chicken and Sweetcorn Soup and Chicken Noodles for tea - nice and easy!!
Then got work this PM only 1-5 today which is 4hours that I'm used to doing not like the 7 I did yesterday!!
Hope everyone is ok and you get good new later Claire re BIL.
Right am turning computer off now or I'll never get stuff done!!
Gert xMade it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0 -
Morning Peeps
nippy again this morning and the car was covered in condensation, although it was the same yesterday morning it did turn into a lovely day so i`m hoping for the same today.
This morning i`ve loaded the dishwasher and turned it on - ditto the washing machine and emptied the breadmaker, for some reason the paddle was embedded in the loaf today and it took some getting out without burning my fingers.
Had a bit of a "discussion" yesterday with DH about the things that he does (or rather dosen`t do) around the house and i almost passed out with shock this morning when he managed to get his back off the mattress at 5am just as i was leaving the house, when i rang a few minutes ago he was hanging out the washing so i shall see if anything else has been done when i get home this afternoon, fingers crossed
I have a man who can calling round this afternoon to give me a quote for clearing and fixing the guttering so i need to practice my surprised look for when he tells me the costmay not have to practice too hard really as i`ve no idea how much these things cost
Anyhoo - enough of my ramblings. Tea tonight is cottage pie for DH and lc curry for moi - oops it`s still in the freezer so that may change
N9eav - Enjoy your fishing
Bargainbird - ((((HUGS)))) and crossed fingers for good news today.
Lillibet - An hour like that would drive me insane too, i need something to do too.
Diva / Bitsy - ((((HUGS)))) hope that the family issues get resolved in the end.
Have a good day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0
