Good morning all!
Clare - I hope that there is some good new today about your bil xx
Topher - there is a SC thread on here, and you can leave your sc on high all day or night so long as there is enough liquid. I love mine as it involves no effort other than chopping and chucking stuff in and then dishing up - think the kids see it as some kind of magic pot, as they just keep helping themselves if I'm not around!
Curlytop - my dd3 used the Jolly Phonics system and it seemed to work really well, other than the songs to go with it started to drive me insane after a while!
Lillibet - fancy making a quilt now, not done patchwork for years, might be quite nice if I got the kids to help as well.
Gert - happy birthday to your ds, hope he has a super day!
Annie - congrats on your oh getting the job, hope he loves it! Actually I think to work as a chef you have to love it, the conditions are never great!
Well bit grey and cool here today, going to jump in the bath then drag the dog out - yesterday he sat down and refused to move half way up the lane, he's blooming hard work sometimes! On the pet subject, the almost feral kittens we got are becoming tamer, they are fascinated by the telly and computer screen, and are finally getting used to being around us!
So far I have tidied my room and S&S my bathroom, tidied the kitchen, S&S it and washed the pots, made myself a cappucino with the new machine (oh how I love my gadgets!), put ingredients in BM for focaccia to be made in the moski later, put WM on with another white load (seem to have lots of whites for some reason at the mo?) and tidied sitting room. Still need to hoover and S&S kids bathroom and downstairs loo and hopefully put some washing away.
Lunch for kids was marmite sarnies (their request!), muffins, orange, apple and cheese cubes.
Dinner will be pasta bake, with courgettes, peppers, red onions, toms and cheese with focaccia and salad. Must think of a quick pud, poss steamed sponge with ice cream?
dd2 has cookery today, apparently she was told last week that they are lucky that their teacher is on an exchange with the current one, as the regular woman won't let them use meat as she is a vegetarian, hmmmm! Anyway today she is cooking breakfast, she has taken in two slices of wholemeal bread, toms, 30g butter, 2 eggs and a 2 slices of ham as per the instructions, since she doesn't eat eggs or toms in their natural state I can't help but feel that it won't be a huge success! Still the best bit was that they were meant to take in a plate and cutlery - surely the school has those? Argh, the opportunity to teach children about food is so valuable, yet it seems to be constantly squandered. Still at least this meal involves some cooking (the eggs and poss the toms) and is fairly well balanced. Right, I'll climb off my high horse now!
Think I'm taking oh to the doc's if he can get an appointment, fingers crossed all is okay and that'll be about it for my day, other than work tonight, sigh!
Hope everyone has a great day xx

Well I made my green tomato chutney yest evening and was just bottling it when I noticed the dish of chopped sultanas on the side which I had forgotten to put in:eek: Not sure what to do now, do you think I should just throw them in as is or should I reboil all the chutney with the sultanas for a little while (although it is quite thick already).
The good news (for me) is that I went to WW for my first weeks weight in last night and I have lost 7 and half pounds in one week:j:j:j

Morning All
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
Rang ward this morning and they said he had a settled night.
DH left at 8 this morning to go and see him, i wish i could have gone to be there for him but with 3 kids, 3 dogs and pigeons i need to stay here, he will ring when he arrives, he is going to stay overnight to give his parents support as it's going to take its toll on them as they are in their 70's and 80's. His elder brother is sleeping at the hospital thankfully they have given him a bed so he can be there.
Had a phone call last night from one of DH friends last night who's brother was there when it happened, apparently BIL who is 48 5ft and about 9stone had had a few to drink and was being picked on by a 6ft odd rugby player of 23. People were telling him to leave him alone as he could hardly stand up, but as BIL was trying to walk away the bloke punched him he fell back and whacked his head on the ground and was bleeding from his nose and ears, the bloke ran off and the police were told BIL was ran over. Until they the CCTV and saw what happened. There was a forensic tent up all day y'day.
Thats all we know at the moment. Feeling very odd but trying to keep busy.
Thanks again for all being there xYou know your getting old when yougo to the pub sit outsideand admire the hanging basket
Is officially 48% tight

Clare - glad that he had a comfortable night, and that the police have the man responsible, what a silly stupid thing to do. I hope that you oh phones you with some good news before long xxx
Stef - ooooh, had a sneak peak at the pics, very nice!
Haribo - hope your dog is feeling better today, I promise to hide the rotten chicken at the bottom of the bin next time! Told a friend at work about clearing it up and she said she wouldn't have done it, ew, glad I don't live next door to her!
Well have sorted out some paperwork and that's about it, other than watching the kittens who are chasing each other around, normal for most pet cats, but first time I've seen these two playing like that!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
:hello: Good morning!
((((HUGS)))) Elona, you must be exhausted! I'm so sorry for your loss, you were obviously very fond of your auntie but it must be good to know she's at peace now xx
mummysaver - When I was 10 we went to live in Gibraltar for 3 years because of my Dad's job (this was in the mid-Sixties) and there were feral cats around where we lived. Some of them had become tame through interaction with people, and one I "tamed" myself from a kitten. But when she had her own kittens, they were as feral as could be, hissing and spitting when I went near. i was really surprised - but then, I was only 12!
bargainbird - Thinking of you all ((((HUGS))))
Anniemf2508 - Congrats to your DH, hope he loves the new job! Does he cook at home too, or has he had enough by the time he gets in?
Stef - I'm not on Facebook, but thanks to Haribo I now know Mr Potential has a beardGlad your day out went so well! :happyhear
mioliere - Enjoy having your visitors, they know the house is very much a "work in progress" so try not to get too stressed about it all ((HUGS))
Penny Penguin - Is that the gorgeous Tom Chambers on your new avatar? :happyhear
I was woken at 6.45 by the postman with a parcel from Amazon  (I grabbed my dressing gown, hurried downstairs still doing it up, and blurted "Goodnessyou'reearlythanksverymuch!") it so I took the opportunity to have my first iron pill of the day and then went back to bed until 8.40. DH has just got up and opened the parcel, which turned out to be River Cottage Everyday :j so will have a nose through it presently!
We were going to have "pork with olives" last night, adapted from Delia, but when I got the pork steaks out of the bottom of the fridge they were mostly frozen  so we had HM chicken curry from the freezer instead
Need to go down the town later to pick up DS's testbook from WH Smith as he starts college tonight - the book is due in today, so just hope it turns up!
Have as good a day as poss, everyone xx0 -
(((Hugs and prayers))) to Clare and all the family.
Elona-very sorry to hear of your loss (((hugs)))
I did lots of shopping around yesterday,Aldi and Lidl,B & M.Got lots of stuff to make building blocks for the freezer,so will be doing that today.Had the lovely Greek yog from Lidl for brekkie with some rasps and nuts.
I was busy experimenting with the sewing machine last night, making a bag from some lovely brocade type material-got a free pattern off the internet, just needs the handle putting on now.DH went to look at a job last night;when he came back everyone was upstairs,me sewing,DS1 designing some flyers for a pub gig our friends are doing at the weekend, and DS2 on his exercise machine. As he popped in to look at us all ,he was laughing at what a busy house he'd come back to.
Off to sort out the wet washing now,but think its just started raining.
Take care all.
PS-well done on the weight loss Nic1Lou2.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Penny Penguin - Is that the gorgeous Tom Chambers on your new avatar? :happyhear
I've a bag of borlotti beans cooking on the hob, and an apricot cake in the oven and my washing machine is making a weird noise -uh-oh:rolleyes:
Hope you enjoy the book as much as I am Ivyleaf
Edit: Flaming nora Penguin's changed her avatar again!0 -
nic1lou2 - just read your post - well done on the weight loss! My son went to the doc y'day as he is very overweight though he doesn't eat vast amounts, and she told him he must eat breakfast for a start - he's never hungry when he gets up, so tends to just eat a roll at lunchtime from the van that comes round, or from a bakery if he's out on site somewhere. He hadn't time for breakfast this morning, so I made him a packed brunch
I've asked DH to have a look for the rum we're sure is somewhere in what's laughingly called the "spare room" as I've got some extremely ripe bananas and somewhere on the cookbook thread recommended Nigella's banana loaf the other day. It involves sultanas too and i haven't got any, so will get some this morning.0
