Need some advice - stealing

Thanks again people for your response
I spoke to her sw again today who said she is still denying she has taken anything. I said that I would be going to the police after work to report the incident and wouldn't it be a shame that she could get a criminal record as she was hoping to work in a profession that needs a clear CRB check. 20 mins later, the girl phoned and text me and left me a voicemail message saying she was sorry that she had taken my 'things' and wanted to arrange to return them.
I have spoken with both her sw and my sw and they are arranging collection and delivery of stolen items as I do not wish to have any further contact with her.
Hopefully, they will be returned by the end of the week, if not sooner and I have said that I expect the items to be in the same condition as when they were taken (some were food items) and if not, then I will expect them to be paid for. Have emailed her sw the list of items so that she knows what should be there.
I think I definately need to grow a back bone and am grateful for the advice everyone has given - thank you!
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
If she's thinking of working in a profession which needs a clear CRB check, then perhaps her social worker ought to have a very serious talk with her. If her social worker actually knows the true meaning of the phrase "very serious talk".
And another person who is of criminal intent gets a clear CRB check. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

It's not about backbone or bottle, it's about standing up for yourself, your things and your rights. You have done a good thing trying to help someone out and they took advantage, no brainer forcing the issue back in to your control rather than the girls control.
Well done! They say that football is a religion, if this is true I worship at the Exacta Stadium, Chester0 -

Ummm... get the message?poppy100 -
Glad that you're getting it sorted. Save the answer machine message jus in case the police need to be involved if she doesn't bring the stuff back. It's a shame she hasn't been reported to the police and has a clear CRB check though, when she's a thief and she could be needing a clear CRB to go into people's homes etc.0

well done for dealing with it and not just rolling over... i would suggest that if you decide to take one of these young people in again i'd make sure that you (and the SW) are clear who is responsible if things go wrong? what would happen if they burnt your house down/ stole from you/ killed your cat, etc and find out if your insurance covers you?
hope you get your stuff back ok0 -

If she is 18ish and wants a job that needs a CRB check, I am guessing she is at college doing a chilld-care course. Bit worrying that she may be responsible for young children at some point. Well done for persevering with the SW - at least this girl knows there will be consequences now.0
