  • I think I can understand you not calling the police to a degree but that stance is not going to teach her an important life lesson, I mean that she cannot go around taking what she wants and get away with it. She is more likely to go on robbing if she thinks she can get away with it.

I have phoned her social worker and left a message asking her to ring me. When she does, I shall be asking her to organize the return of my belongings or compensate me for my financial loss. If not, then I shall be going to the police this afternoon.

    Thanks everyone

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • You are far too kind-hearted! Call the police.

I second this! No-one is above the law.
I love giving home made gifts, which one of my children would you like? :D :A :D

I think this is the correct order of things, the girl didn't give you her new address AND changed her mobile number so she knows what she has done is wrong and doesn't want to speak to you.

The social worker should contact the girl and insist she returns all the items as they are stolen, if the social worker cannot get her to do this then either they should arrange for money to be given to you from her allowances or you compensated and it sorted out with the girl later.

If girl and SW do not return / refund you then it is a matter for the police who will hopefully have the power to return your things for you.

On a seperate issue why was a SW not available to supervisor this girls move from your lodgings to her own flat? As she is still receiving care from SW then they should have some responsibilities to you and her.

So was wondering if anyone had any advice should Social Services and the young person's social worker not want to resolve this and what my next move could be?

Phone the police and report the theft.

Social Services will have the girl's needs at heart, not yours I'm thinking. That being so they're unlikely to want to get the police mixed up. Perhaps I'm harsh, but I do think that some young people don't benefit from the 'fluffy huggy' approach and need to be faced with the real consequences of their actions

  • When this happened to me I made sure I was there as they left the house.
but I did evict on the spot for theft.

I think the only chance of you getting your stuff back is to involve the police and it may serve as a warning to your other lodgers.
  • Report it to the police and claim on your insurance with the crime reference number .

Most insurance doesn't cover you for theft without a break in?

Social Services are not going to give you compensation without a crime reference number, they would need to justify where any money has gone. I think it's good to go to the social worker to see if this can be dealt with informally but you are probably going to have to speak with the police in the end.
