I been trying to filter a lot of used prep zt palm oil- this is all I can get at the moment so it really is for the summer months only. My latest batch came out of my filtering barrel and looked plain wrong, I put a bit in a jam jar and left it for a few days and it had 50% crud in it. On further investigation of my set up I realised that my 5-micron bag filter was not 5 micron and wasn’t filtering to the specification I required. Fortunately I hadn’t used any in the car.
I have just got some new filters and checked that they are correct- I have gone for 1 micron now, taking no more chances.
This left me with the problem of the filtering barrel so I have just emptied it into an old prep tub- it fits over the top perfect when turned upside down. Let all the dregs drain out the barrel and have given a thorough rinse with a bucket of hot water and left to drain in the sunshine.
In about an hour I will start filtering again and should have some useable product by the end of the process. I used palm oil last summer with no issues but this year I tempted to mix it with 5% petrol, I haven’t blended before outside the tank but I think this may help. I usually run 100% wvo in the summer but it has always been ktc soya in the past. Does anyone think that adding 5% rug will be a benefit?0 -
Filtering barrel is back up and running correctly- the oil is coming out lovely and clean and a gorgeous golden colour, I am admiring it like a fine wine. I have re-filtered all of the stock that I had down to 1 micron and have about enough supply to last the month which will include a veggie road trip to the Midlands and back next week at some point.
I have some unfiltered palm wvo going through at the moment and when this batch is done I am going to clean the filter as it is full of !!!!!! and then reuse it for the rest of the oil I have which is about 30 litres which will keep me going till I pick up the next load from the back of the pub.
I usually just chuck the filter away but I plan to take a bucket of soapy water to the garage, rubber gloves, bin liner and give the used filter a scrape by turning it inside out into the bin liner then give my self a good wash in the bucket afterwards as it is a truly messy job. Not going to bother washing the filter as it is too much hassle but will just scrape the fat out and reuse.0 -
Just done my first ever blend. Filtered palm wvo into a 20 litre cubie half filled, I then put in 300ml of unleaded and gave it a good shake. I have left it to stand for a few days and will be using it next week on the annual veggie road trip.
Cleaned the bag filter this morning and currently filtering the last 15L of palm I have left. First time I have bought petrol for years!0 -
The car for the hols is a CRD so didnt put any bio anywhere near it. I've had it in there before, but not convinced the qualitys good enough for it.
Filtered some veg today, around 12 litres. 100 micron barrel filter then through a J-cloth (cheers Bob) and pumped into the tank via a 1 micron filter. Added a litre of petrol too, just to thin.
Starting to struggle for supplies, Aunt no longer at the nursing home I uplifted from (thinking of chapping the door and chancing my arm anyways) and another establishments not going through much.
On a brighter note, got 4 litres from family cleaning out friers lol.0 -
Went to the nursing home, theres a guy around 350lb's cooks for them. I think he's drinking it. Says it's not avaliable.
Bought a few hundred litres to see me through, will be advertising on gumtree/adtrader/anywhere that it may be seen and offering to pay.
Cleaned out my garage yesterday and got my processor against a wall. Filtered some more and went to pump it into the car. I've accidentally fractured the filter housing when moving it, once the pumps on, it pumped.
Luckily most of it landed on me.0 -
Back from the annual veggie road trip. Car ran like a dream on my blend of palm wvo and petrol. I can't tell you how nervous I was when I got to the motorway since I last tried it January this year and broke down with a blocked fuel filter as it was too cold. No issues this time, I ran it as cold as 13c as it is British summer time after all! Starting from cold has taken a couple of cranks but it has flown and will definitely be mixing up another blend this weekend to see me through the rest of the summer. I am now a big fan of cold filtered palm to 1 micron and then mixed with a bit of petrol.
I feel you pain if you've spilt any bio. I use a couple scoops of vanish oxi clean in a bucket of hot water to clean up any garage floor spills.0 -
Just picked up three more tubs of prep zt this morning (45 litres) and cleaned out a bag filter which meant putting my hands inside it to turn it inside out to give it a scrape, had about three kilos of dead animal in it. I have started taking a bucket of hot soapy water down to the garage to clean my self with, the garage is about 100 metres away from the house with no running water nearby.
Last time I was fuelling my car last Saturday I filled it to the brim for my veggie road trip and as you are pouring it in you don't know how much space is left and I wanted to brim which I did- but a little came out onto the driveway floor. I gave it a wipe but as it had rained (mid summer of course) I couldn't see the extent of the spill, but my nosey neighbour has. Every time I see him he keeps asking about the oil stain (his garage is next to mine), I just denied all knowledge as I don't want to tell him what I am doing for two reasons. 1) He is malicious and will ring the council etc- even though there is nothing wrong and I am well under my 2500 litre HMRC tax free limit and it is after all just food I have spilt. 2) He is a fu*king pain in the ar5e- for pleasure he walks around looking for cars that have expired tax and rings the dvlc. Recently a neighbour was in hospital and his tax had expired and being in hospital there was nothing he could do, when he came out he was greeted on his return home by a clamp on his car which is not really wanted when recovering from heart surgery.
Anyway, I gave the drive a good scrub with soapy water but I have run out of oxi clean at the mo.0 -
This oxi clean, is that the same sort of stuff I use to clean shirts and the like?? Does it work well to get the oil patches out of drives???
Also, while im here. I have been running 100% new VO for the last few months (ford ranger) at what time of year should I start thinking about adding a bit petrol to it, and how much?“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
