I looked into it briefly, apparently it's full of deadly stuff from being thrashed around in the engine.
It would need purified in some way, theres a method using a rope and a couple of containers but it would take an age. Other methods would cost too much money.
I also read a little about hydraulic oil or gear oil (think both mentioned previously too) as veg oil is getting harder to get. Emailled HMRC about duty and VAT, the reply was a link to the duty rates (think around 58p a litre) with VAT payable on your purchase price if your supplier was registered.
If your getting it cheap or free, a viable option I'd think0 -
Deadly to what, the car or the enviroment?
If it's filtered same way wvo is, the car should be ok, it'll just be the emmissions that are toxic I suppose.0 -
Don't quote me on it but I did read on one of the forums that engine oil is illegal as a road fuel regardless. ie: you can't use it and pay duty you are just not supposed to use it at all.
But I would also be against it due to the content. Certainly the crap that comes out in the oil change from running veg isn't something putting me in favour of running waste oil from a SVO car.
I change at 3K miles now and buy engine oil in bulk.
Better running it in a lister and making some power & heat. But that's another topic0 -
The enviroment I believe. Although as it can contain metal particles, even filtering to 1 micron may leave particles that although tiny, are harder than a chip.
Just a guess here, but as it might not burn clean, could it also ruin the injectors?0 -
I recently stumbled across a youtube video of a chap in Arizona with an old Volvo and he tried old engine oil and really knackered everything up and he was lucky to eventually get it running. After seeing this it put me right off any more comedy fuels.
Found the film-

I saw that video.
One gallon of oil in the tank, but then there are loads of others running diesels on 100% used oil, so I'm still out on it.0 -
Was behind a berlingo van a couple of days ago and it had a little smoke from the exhaust (more grey than black).
Dont know what it was running, but it wasnt diesel, bio, veg oil or kerosene.
Theres another link on that page about making fuel from plastic........0 -

Aha, but if you read the comments, he says it was only a lift pump fault. It's running fine now.0
