Running my Vauxhall Astra on veg oil

This is a bit off topic; but did anyone else see the engineer, helped by the (Greek?) bloke from "Dragons Den" ; They went to India with an electronic Gizmo that allowed most diesel motors to run on veg oil.
When they got got there they discovered that the government subsidised the price of diesel - end of story.
[Finding a reasonably consistent source of veg oil was a problem too - in the Indian diet it it is much too good to burn - lets eat it]0 -
When I was in Saudi a couple of years ago, petrol was around 13p/litre.
Literally it was cheaper than water.0 -

In '98 I was in Jordan (no, not that one) and the taxi drivers used to cross the border to Iraq to fill up for 20p. If that was the case here I'd be in a Jag V12 and I would never need to use my legs for walking.0

Happy days! Have just been in the garage checking my home made supply of bio diesel which had solidified in the cold weather starting last October which has meant me having to buy diesel at the pumps for the last 6 months, is now a lovely runny golden brown liquid and ready to go into the tank on the car. I have over 60 litres all filtered and ready to go and it means I wont have to spend a penny on fuel now until October when it gets cold again. Lovin' the hot weather.0

Checked mine too, it's more liquid as well but still a lot of sludge.
I'm expecting the wifes car back this week, then the corsas for sale. My only choices now seem to be between an old mercedes diesel (300 looks good) or some sort of pickup that'll run on veg.0 -

Truck drivers, in my hitch hiking youth, used to change their exhaust to squirt onto the diesel tank in cold weather. Watch out for that water filter thingy too when the temperature is sub zero.0 -

I've heard the Merc 300 is the one to go for, leather, auto and climate and not a penny on diesel to run it- all the boxes ticked.
I am surprised you still have sludge in your wvo, but it was 28c all weekend here in Brighton. If its in a cubie put it in a black bin liner and leave it in the sun for the day should sort the job out nicely. Happy free motoring everyone !0 -
There we are.(never posted a pic before lol, simple things an that)
Just going to take a little time.0 -
Love your set up, especially your sludge trap.
Have you tried 100% wvo/svo in your corsa yet, if so how did you get on? I haven't gone 100% in the astra yet but am tempted to do so as soon as my current tank of 50/50 is gone.0
