Definitely going to keep an eye out for a derv runner that'll take SVO - especially if I can buy it at 78p/L as hinted at in a previous post. ;)

100k on veg with very few problems sounds good to me :D

Anyone know if older VW 1.9 TDI engines will run on veg? I mean < 1998...

I think a guy at my dad's work runs a passat on it, but I also think he has a machine to convert it into proper biodiesel and I've no idea how old it is. That's not a very helpful post is it? :p

    :rotfl:.

Those machines cost a fortune don't they? :)

Yeah they're best part of a grand I think. How many miles would it take to earn that back!?
But they do give you the convenience factor, you just stick your WVO in, bit of methanol, and get biodiesel out that you don't have to worry about having the right car for.

According to my calculations, only 8,333 miles, assuming WVO 'costs' you 10p a litre in electricity and methanol which you have to buy to convert, with diesel at £1.20 and doing 50mpg.

I've fired in the last of my filterable oil into the car today (approx 8 litres of diesel to 16 of waste).
But between housesitter and rev_henry, i've made 2 decisions today lol.
    1. No more diesel, the corsas going to straight veg oil
    2. As i've a lot of "slush puppy" oil, i've got someone else and we're going to go halfs on a processor to make bio.

Heres the 1st one i've looked at. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UK-Biofuel-Systems-100S-Bio-Diesel-Processor-Reactor-V2-/140404203184?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20b0be1eb0
Just gathering info and advice now. Posted on the veg oil forum I usually use as well.

The plan is to get around 700 litres of waste together so it virtually pays for itself.

Now that's an excellent idea. I am right in thinking that you can stick biodiesel from one of those machines in any old diesel and it'll be fine, aren't I? Well more to the point some new fangled modern diesel with complicated electronics and common rail, without fear of messing it up. I thought they were more expensive than that, that's a pretty good price. Certainly much cheaper, and better than an LPG conversion.

I'll need to do more research, but I'm pretty sure any diesel car will take it although I'm up to 200 litres of waste oil already.
Asked 2 places today, one is really modern and filters it's oil as it goes and only tops up but he's put me onto his cousin, and the other guy wants 20p a litre (at this moment in time he can sing for it).
I've spoke to someone whos up for it too and between us, theres 4 diesels. This can equate to 4 people (spouses) which could allow as much as 10000 litres a year to be produced for our own use (nowhere near that needed).
I'm still in the process of getting access to a cash and carry which would sell new oil for 65p a litre in bulk. Even allowing for approx 21p methanol and caustic soda, as long as the processor pays for itself with the waste, you could be pumping it out for 86p a litre.

I reckon I would need to get a bosch fuel pump before I could try this, don't know which type I have but guessing its a Lucas from reading this thread and others. I have a 2003 Citroen Berlingo 1.9D, the car that looks like a van, no no, the van that looks like a car. It's covered 110k now and owes me nothing.
Could someone more knowledgable please confirm which pump it has/needs/cost and if you would recommend I do it. Car runs great now, expect it to last another 100k, 40mpg, spent about £200 on repairs since new.(ignoring tyres, brakes, exhaust, timing belt)

    Thanks

Unfortunately we're not knowledgeable lol, just lucky to have cars that had the bosch fuel pump.

Theres a 1.9 citroen fuel pump on ebay just now. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HIGH-PRESSURE-PUMP-1-9-DIESEL-/230470740301?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35a920694d
Perhaps a look at that then look under your bonnet to see if theres something that looks the same.
From the injectors, trace the pipework back and hopefully you should come to it somewhere.
Unfortunately, anything i've searched for for a berlingo comes out with bosch, lucas or even delphi so nothing definitive there.
Perhaps try www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk they're a knowledgeable bunch and will help you out.

    Good luck.
