All my fuel is still solid in the garage, but any day now it must start to warm up and liquefy again and then we are off again for another summer of free motoring. 47 litres of dino cost me £56 this morning and I hope that this will last me until mid May when the lovely free stuff will be ready. :waves:

At the moment I'm still only collecting from 2 establishments. 1 is good, the others seems to be more solid/sludgy.
Should be adding the local takeaway this weekend to collections so we'll see what thats like.
I have an incling the one with the sludge has some sort of filtration system and tops up rather than renews their oil.
Put 12 litres of diesel in today, need to filter approx 20 litres runny oil to top up.
Thats me 400 miles in already.
I now have the methanol, caustic soda and a litre of new oil so I'll try to make bio soon.
With the price of diesel, is it possibly worth making bio with new oil? Certainly easier.
I also need to find out if 10% petrol/90% oil would be ok instead of 50/50 diesel/waste(or even new).

    Some more working out.
If you take a container of sludge back to cash and carries around here you get £2 off. That brings it down to 65p a litre. Add in 20.5 for methanol and caustic soda, we're at 85.5p a litre.
Ok, you've got time and effort, but thats free.

Try it out on fresh oil first, then when you have a successful recipe, try the waste oil.

Just been in the local Chinese cash and carry and they are selling 20L for £15.75. (78p litre)
  • Doing the rounds tomorrow (been a busy weekend) no idea how much i'll get but I'm going to try and get something definately filtered on my 5 days off. And a litre of bio made. My to do list is growing.
  • Put my first filtered waste in it today. Down to 1 micron, (100/25/5/1) the hardest parts getting it through the 100. This seems to catch all the solid fats.
Put about 16 litres waste and 12 litres of diesel.
The thick stuff doesnt seem to be doing much though, we'll just need to hold onto it a while yet.

I've got 20L all ready to go for the end of the month when I should be down to half a tank of dino. Going to see if I can get it to 100% by high summer. Good luck with your first batch of wvo.
  • After more reading on vegetableoildiesel, looks like the thicker stuff could be converted to bio. Need to get the finger out and start experimenting with that.

Just put 20L of ktc Rape in. Its brand new and cost me £15.65 (78p Litre) as my filtered stuff is still a bit thick. Funnel fell out half way thru and the stuff went everywhere, I might get a watering can and use that in future.
