Best place to sell gold/silver jewellery?

Jut came across this. Don't know if matey above works for Cathedral jewellers, sounds like he does but to be fair I did my homework and I got by far the by far the best price in Manchester from The Manchester Gold Company. Like it or not its the truth

Where do you sell designer pieces? I have asked in a couple of shops, and they have offered me scrap weight value for a ring, but as it is a fairly modern designer engagement ring I can't believe there isn't a better way to sell it than scrap.
